Over 50 Please Help!
Welcome,
This is a wonderful forum with lots of great, kind and caring people.
I don't have much to add, but agree with the previous posters in that you have to do a lot of research and figure out what best suits you.
I was going to get a lap band, but after talking with my Dr. and reading and asking questions, I decided on the RNY. I could not have the lap band because of previous surgeries to my esophagus due to GERD.
I am also one of the people who can eat anything and will not usually dump when eating sugar. Sad for me. If I had it to do over, I would look into the DS. I was also a self-pay and hadn't even heard of the DS.
I am very happy with my RNY, but as they say, they did surgery on my body, not my mind. I struggle every day and am still working on getting rid of some regain. I got to goal in less than a year, was a lightweight, but have gained 15-20 lbs back. I am going to do the pouch test with the gang starting tomorrow.
Good luck on whatever you decide...
Cheryl

I think everyone that has had the DS surgery are pleased. It is the best surgery to help you keep the weight off because of the malabsorption. Since you don't have a lot of weight to lose you may be really happy with the Gastric Sleeve. My surgeon does lap-band, RNY and the sleeve. I knew I didn't want the hassle with the fills of the lap-band so the sleeve was my choice and I really love it.
Research, research, research and good luck.
Research, research, research and good luck.
