Ahoy! The side excursion (5 day pouch test) is ready to sail!

Good morning!  Are you ready?  It's okay if you're not, as this happy little side trip from the SS Neversink will be an ongoing adventure. Here are the instructions for day one and two:

Days One & Two: Liquid Protein

The first two days are all liquids. You can have as many low-carb protein shakes as you like to satisfy hunger or cravings. In addition drink at least six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. The purpose of all liquids is to break any snacking, grazing or processed carbohydrate habits. In addition the liquids will work to cleanse your system and prepare you for the following three days. Try to reduce your caffeine intake as well, but do not stop caffeine cold turkey or you will feel sick and frustrated potentially losing the desire to continue with the pouch test.

If you notice symptoms of carbohydrate withdrawal you can eat a small piece of melon or an orange. You can also try a dose of Emergen-C which should reduce headache, dizziness or cramping from carbohydrate withdrawal.

If you've done this process yourself, please chime in and let us know your experiences with it. As I mentioned on my other thread, I'm not doing the 5DPT as I'm 10 days away from plastics. This is NOT the time for me to be doing this, but I will be more than happy to cheer, encourage and offer whatever support I can to those who are!!!  WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Good luck to everyone!

You know you're not going to be the only person at work who's dieting this week.

For the coffee freaks out there....

I can give up most of my caffeinated coffee, but I still need the coffee.  Hot liquids do not mix well with protein powder.  So.....

I mix a scoop of protein powder (whatever flavor I have) into about  3 oz of tap water, shake till mixed well, pour it in a cup, and fill the cup with hot coffee.  It tastes a little "different" but I don't mind it with my coffee.  The sweetness of the protein powder is usually enough, and I can get away with little or no creamer of any kind.

Voila!  I can call it a mocha without cream if I want to, or just drink the stuff so I don't miss my coffee too much.

Most flavored protein powder does not mix in hot liquids.  It clumps and gets nasty.  Pre-mixing it in the cool water enables me to have it MY way....

Day One.  I have long standing dinner plans.  S**t!

I made the mistake of trying to mix protein powder in water that was too hot just once. Lesson learned!

As far as dinner, make the best choices you can. It's all you can do

How about a "Margarita Dinner?" It's liquid and you'd definitely feel no pain! Candy, My Champion Pure Whey Chocolate mixes great in cold water. However, since I've started using the calcium crystals I use pretty warm tap water, then I pour over crushed ice. However, when I visited Vitalady Michelle she had me sample it hot. Not super hot but drinkable hot and it was good. The thing I have always liked about this particular brand is it dissolves completely. I can not tolerate grit!!

Great minds think alike; which is probably what gets us into trouble. We can always find a way!

One more crewmate checking in. If I'm a rower I need to be port side (left I think?) I'm a good strong kicker so if the boat gets to full throw me over with my fins, nose clip, and pretty Esther Williams hat. If I hang on I won't sink and I can kick like h-e- double toothpicks.

I'm drinking my first shake of the day. Waiting for my subbing call which will make the day easier. I'm taking the rest of the giant tub of cheeseballs to work. If I don't work I'll flush them. Damn me. I bought them at Walmart. . . . and they are melt in your mouth good, but oh so not good for me.

I made Mike a big pot of soup so I will NOT be cooking anything except broth or thin soups the next two days.

I've done this a couple of times. The first time I caved the first day. The last time I considered a success. Didn't lose much but it sure got rid of those nasty carb cravings!

Good luck everyone. I'll be thinking about you today.

Good Morning!   I have no reason for this not to work.  We are still in the hospital and Greg is on all liquids and not really eatting it so I started with a protein drink at 5am and had his chicken broth about 9am.   So I am definately onboard!!  Hope everyone stays strong!
