Good Morning Everyone! I'm up waiting for my subbing phone call so I thought I'd at least pop in and say hello.
Julia, Mike's last year of teaching before his spinal fusion he would shut his classroom door during his planning period. He couldn't get up and down from the floor so he would stretch out on a big heavy, flat table that was in his room. That got him through the rest of that school year.
Things are going well here. We went for a nice drive on Sunday. Mike is making an effort to keep me sane this winter by suggesting a few things like a ride or a movie. I do appreciate it when he makes the effort. I know he loves me but he isn't real good at showing it at times. Seems like most all of the time I am the one to make plans. So anyway this was nice.
The sun was shining. We packed a lunch and drove down through the Wallula Gap and stopped at Hat Rock Park in Oregon for a picnic. Any of you who have read any of the journals of Lewis and Clark will find it mentioned in them. Just a few hours out of the house make a big difference in my attitude.
I'm going to make the little girls' dresses for Nathan and Kristin's wedding. I bought the pattern on sale this weekend and will make a practice dress first out of fabric I have around here. Then I'll buy the pretty material. I have plenty of time. Hopefully they'll turn out nice. Haven't done zippers in a few years so will have to practice those!!
Nothing much else. Hoping to have my thigh lift in Mid May so trying to work as much as possible to contribute towards that cost. Start getting SS checks in May so that will help too. My job right now is to get as conditioned as I can before then. My consult is in Seattle the end of March. I'll find out then if it is financially possible and when they can possibly do it. Want to have 6 weeks to heal before Nathan's wedding.
Sending thoughts of friendship to you all. Have a great day.

I woke after a night of strange dreams to the welcome sound of the phone and Thelma's cheery voice. Now I'm up, had a cuppa and am trying to get motivated to move my arse.
I have odds and ends to do today.... Laundry, some vaccuuming, food planning for when I'm sitting on my butt most of the time and can't do much cooking. I've set up a few nesting areas for myself...lots of footstools and pillows. I have to go pick up my walker this afternoon, make a few copies, then will be volunteering at the Blood Bank from 4-6 pm. Figured I'd stay as busy as possible today to lessen the stress. THAT's gonna happen!
Tomorrow my foot surgery is at 12:15, expect to be home by 6 pm. My niece will stay the night with me, then I'll be on my own except for people stopping in to help out a bit and break the tedium. I'm actually a lot more concerned about being bored out of my skull and not able to move around as much as I want to for the next month than about the surgery and the post-op. You'll probably hear a lot more from me in the near future. I'm sorry about that.
Thank goodness for the computer is all I can say. I have lots of books and I've downloaded a bunch onto the laptop. Lots of stuff DVR'd, and my son hooked up a DVD player and I have lots of DVD movies on loan. I'll survive.
Talked to Susan yesterday. She sounds wonderful. Hurting, I'm sure, but recovering. She'll just be a wisp in the wind after all the healing is done.
Everyone have a good day. I'll catch up in a couple of days.
Candy
Candy,
Best wishes tomorrow. When I had my knee replacements I draped a shopping bag (like the reusable ones) over my walker handles. I kept a water bottle, phone, the remote, a little bit of everything including pain pills in there. Sure saved the agony of having to get up too often. Getting up and exercising is good but you don't want to have to do it AGAIN right after you sit down. It will get better day by day.
Any drawers to organize or pictures to put in order? I always have stuff like that around that needs to be re organized.
Karen C
The photos are already sorted according to general subject (did that last week), will be arranging by date and putting into albums while I recover. I also have a few old albums that need to be refurbished. They're so old the pics are falling out. I also plan to sit at the computer and do a good job on the pics I have there. I have duplicates and triplicates of many of them in different areas. Hopefully I'll be able to pare down the whole mess.
My drawers and closets are always straightened out. That's my everyday stress reliever. I do them on a regular basis.
I'm gonna plan menues based on what I have int he freezer and cupboards. It'll serve a double purpose. To use up the hoards of food I have stashed and to get me back on track eating right.
Since my household filing system consists of a large brown paper grocery bag for each year and a bunch of piles marked "to be filed", I'll be creating order out of chaos to be ready for my income taxes a month in advance of filing rathe rthan the night before.
I'm working on a couple of afghans, and may order a kit for another one just so I have the UPS guy to look forward to.

My biggest challenge for the next month will be NOT jumping up to do something every time the urge strikes.
I already have the bag ready for the walker. Walker. Sigh....I feel old just writing the word. I can't use crutches because of the arthritis in my hands and wrists, so walker it is. Sigh...Now I feel even older....
I'll get over it. I always do.
Thanks for thinking of me.
Candy
I just read all the interesting posts. Everyone is so motivated. What a great bunch. I am not on the bench yet but I will be Feb.28 th. I can't wait to post my progress and my daily routine. Sounds like it is great. Keep up the good posting sure makes me feel like I want to be a part of this wonderful group. Doris QC.
Candy,
Sounds like you are as ready as you can get! I know you'll be glad when it's over. That's always the worst of it for me. I imagine things worse than they usually are. You're a tough lady. Take those pain pills that first week or so, get lots of res****ch lots of movies, you'll be up and going without that walker before you know it. Will you graduate to a "boot" within a couple of weeks?
Re: the walker. You'll be glad you have it. I much preferred it to crutches! I can picture that "man in brown" too. Ours is really cute. Too bad it's not shorts weather. They have such nice calves and tushes! (Did I say that?) I'm not dead yet!

Karen & Candie, Hummmmm, men in brown, summer shorts, summer short sleeve shirts, the honk .
We live out in the country, fenced yard. We put a big box on the inside of our gate,( the cuties in brown don't come to the door, cause we have 2 protective furry ones,)anyway the delivery is dropped into the big box, then the honk happens, I don't get to see the boy's in brown anymore , sigh
AND ALL OUR HERO'S

I sure know about dealing with a bad back at work. My problem is it starts to hurt and I can't sit for much longer, and there's still half a night left to work. Same with my knee. Can't take a nap. I used to go home when I lived in Aberdeen, S.D., because I was so close, and I'd have lunch (well, it was evening, but it was my lunch) and then take a 15-30 minute nap.
Thankfully, no headache this morning. It's still gloomy, looks like rain, but no headache, so I'm grateful for that. Back to work tonight and then off again for two days, one of which I don't get paid for.
Well, not much going on for me. Have a good day.
