I must still be cruisin'.  I'm up, can't sleep, hot tea and a piece of dry crispy toast in hand... no, wait... I'm home.

No one to make my bed, fix my meals, put a napkin in my lap, give me a choice of pastries, put a towel animal on my bed, clean up my stuff, tell me good morning when I walk out my door, WAHHHHHHHHH!!!

THIS IS GOING TO BE LONG SO IF YOU AREN'T INTERESTED IN THE RAMBLINGS OF A DEMENTED OLD LADY.. PLEASE SKIP...

The cruise.

You know me, I'll tell you the good, bad, and ugly.

Reason for cruise:  I was stressed to the max.  It was just a long, short year.  Lots of introspection needed and time without anyone I knew around.  Needed to find out if I could go it alone.

THE CRUISE:

Drove to Galveston on Saturday and met Linda B and Terry T at the Olympia Grill for dinner.  Was wonderful.  Stayed the night with TerryT.  Sunday morning, after breakfast at The Sunflower Cafe (crabcakes w/poached eggs and hollandaise) Terry took me to the Pier.

Boarded the ship and found that the room I had on my manifest had been 'upgraded' to a lower floor (the BOTTOM floor) and the room I had on the second level was 'no more'.  Great big room but right over the propellers and 3 cabins in from the back of the ship. LOUD AND VIBRATING ALL NIGHT.  I didn't sleep and asked that I be moved.  Oh..yes.. Murray/Marie... okay, they had a Singles Meet and Mingle so thought I'd go.  Well, the little chickypoo sitting next to me put her hand on my knee and invited me to the Gay and Lesbian Bash after the singles meet and mingle.  Should have gone as they apparently were the only 'single' people on the ship.

Monday after no sleep, asked again to be moved and was told all rooms were full.  Cold day as we were out of Galveston and still had Galveston winter weather.  Day on board was good but I discovered FOOD!!  Monday night, no sleep again but this time, I was standing, in my pajamas in front of the Guest Services asking to be moved only to be told that 'there were no empty cabins'.  Now, I've never prayed for anyone's misfortunes before, but someone either needed to get sick and meet their demise.  I needed sleep.  Anyway, I decided to hunker by butt down on the nice leather sofa in the main lobby of the ship in my coat, curled up and napped in the quiet for a bit.  (Please understand, I was doing all the normal cruise stuff, just without the benefit of sleep)

Tuesday, after no sleep, asked again to be moved and was told all rooms were full, but they could tell I was in some sort of distress.  I carried on for the day.  It was tough... food, casino, sunshine, deck, Bahama Mama's, etc... but still needed really good sleep.. the room was STILL LOUD and VIBRATING.  By this time, after the Singles Meet and Greet being a bust, the vibrating part was starting to .. well, nebbermind.. anyway... I had gone to dinner and the casino, the comedy show and back to my room about 12:30 a.m. (no need to hurry, right?  Couldn't sleep anyway) There was a letter on my bed that said there 'might' be a cabin on Deck 7 if I wanted to see it.  Could have been a door hook and I would have taken it.  So, after 1 a.m.. here I am.. repacking EVERYTHING, and no steward to help, so I trudge from the BACK of the ship with two suitcases to the FRONT  of the ship to Cabin 7-206.. a handicap room.. OMG, maybe someone DID meet their demise!! I said a very short silent prayer for them, stripped off my clothes without benefit of pj's and crawled into the TWIN bed and covered up my head... well,  long story longer, the a/c was on MAJOR COLD and wouldn't change with the thermostat so I FROZE all night but there was no noise but my teeth chattering and I was vibrating my own bed.

Wednesday morning's first port was Montego Bay, Jamaica.  It was 2:30 a.m before I could climb into bed because of moving in the middle of the night and because I had frozen all night, but it's our first stop.  I'm up and dressed and ready to go ashore.. when... drumroll... my head feels like I've been hit with a sledgehammer, my body feels like I've been run over by a truck, my throat is raspy and those little knots under my chin are swollen, and I'm sneezing. NO energy to pee much less move.  TO THE INFIRMARY.  $200 later, antibiotics, a shot, and told to bedrest.  The ship had stopped, there was NO noise, they got the temp regulated... You didn't have to tell me twice.  I never saw Montego Bay this trip... I was in bed until 6 p.m. when I realized I'd slept the whole day and the ship was moving... so I got up, got my glad rags on, felt MUCH better and started my REAL cruise.

Thursday... snorkeling over the coral beds, played with the Sting Rays, had cerviche from conch on the little excursion boat that the capt'n dove in and got, got to see live starfish, went to Margaritaville and back to the ship, only to meet a man in the hot tub who said he wished he'd met me six months earlier before he went back to his ex-wife. (Told ya I should have gone to the bash after meet and greet!!)

Friday, Cozumel. I was probably the only passenger on Carnival who got off and went to a Remax office to look at brochures and houses.  But here's a real hint... if you want to see an island.. be VERY interested in their real estate... :) A stop at Starbucks and a stop at Margaritaville and I was back on the ship.

Saturday, packed, was chilly so no sunning.  Stayed inside.. okay, okay... there was a casino on board... and since I didn't do the excursions.. well, okay... my last hit was 7 double/triple.  It didn't get ALL my money back but it helped.

Now let me say... I had a good time. I had one pity party for myself and no one came but me.  My table for 10 was occupied at dinner by 1) a 31 year old "kid" going through a divorce with an attitude problem; 2) a recent graduate of the Air Force Academy.  It was good.  I cougared every night at dinner and they finally hunted me down to play with them at the casino... they weren't having any 'luck' either..:) I made it to the piano bar one night, the 'show lounge' one night, and the comedy club one night.. okay, 7 nights 3 things.. guess where I was the other 4..
I learned a lot; I met and/or talked to people; I got no last names.  My son made me 50 cards that said "You met me on Carnival Conquest" and my email address. I gave out about 25. We'll see if anyone responds...

And lastly, but certainly not least... the finale was... at 10:01 a.m. Sunday, I pulled out on the highway headed for the six hour trip home. Got in at 4 p.m., lugged in my luggage, got on the computer and had a message that said " You have mail on Plenty of Fish"..no, not someone I met on the boat... but someone who lived in Galveston and said if I were ever IN Galveston, he'd like to meet me...   Timing is everything, isn't it?

Wow Red, what a story book!  At least you were able to salvage a few days of fun!  Hope you got everything contemplated and figured out in your time away-and got some stress relief too!
well it's a cold morning in NEK, and the blizzard will be hitting tomorrow I guess up here.  Today is just a few inches, tomorrow will be the big drop.  Hope everyone across the country is safe, warm and stay's that way!
Not much else new with me, time to get ready for work I guess so had best get to it.
Everyone have the best day they can!

OMG, what a story!   Sounds like you had some fun, some troubles, some sick, and you did it all by yourself.   Don't think it's what you had in mind, but was it worth it??? Do you feel even a little bit better for having gone?  I'm not a very good vacationer, and I think the part I always like best is getting back to my normal routine, which isn't too bad at all.     Glad to have you back, we missed you!

Good mornin', ya'll.
Janet, what an interesting trip you had. I want to go on a cruise so bad, so I am anxious to hear of everyone else's experiences. I live vicariously!
After all weekend of pain in my left leg, from top to bottom, I called my orthopedic surgeon. He wanted to see me, I called our DIL and she came home from work to take me. Have I mentioned what a peach she is? I was sent for a STAT dopplar test on my left leg. The guy said my doc would get results in an hour, my doc said I'd have the results in 2 hours. Guess what, that was 3 PM yesterday, still no results! I'll call at 9 AM. I already give myself an anticoagulent shot each morning. If I do have a blood clot, it will just mean coumadin for 6 months.
No one knows it, but I am going to drive today for the first time since surgery. I have taken no pain meds for over 12 hours. My DH will get an electric cart and bring it to the car for me. He has a doc appt and we need some groceries. I'll admit it to our daughter and DIL after the fact. Easier to beg forgiveness, than get permission!
I hope everyone has a fantabulous day!!

Carolyn,
Please be careful.  I worry about you doing so much moving around if there is a chance of a clot in your leg.  You have a wonderful support system so please take advantage of them.  Don't take any risks.
Hugs,
Bev

Well, we were found out. Our grandson went by the house on the way home from school. He called his Mom to ask where Gramma was (Grampa doesn't drive). She called me on my cell, I had to admit it. She called our daughter. She called to gripe at me. When we got home from WM our grandson was waiting to unload all the groceries. So now I'm in ho****er! I really don't need my left leg to drive. And I've been lifting that leg into the car for months!

If you have not heard from you doc consider it good news.  Unless the medical professionals you saw are completely negligent you would never have left the hospital if they had detected a clot.  Do you have issues already?  ie the anticoagulent shot.  You should not be up and around it you even think you may have a clot.  It may be easier to ask forgiveness but you may not be able to if you throw a clot and have a stroke or heart attack.  Don't mean to be overly brutal but thruth is thruth.

Janet

Sounds like you had an adventure.

I am on my way to have my oral surgery so this will be short.

It is storming here 68 degrees but will drop this afternoon with a low of 22 degrees.

Won't get out of the 40's until Saturday.

With anestheia and pain meds maybe I will sleep through all of it.

See ya later
