Finished Afghan, FINALLY!!
Thank you ladies. In 2009 when I was going through the whole cancer thing, my granddaughter and her cousin (on her Daddy's side), went through all of my crochet books and picked out baby things they wanted me to make them for their hope chests. They said they wanted to have some things from me before my arthritis got too bad to crochet. But let's be honest and acknowledge the 500 pound elephant in the room. I think we were all thinking that cancer was really gonna get me and I wouldn't have a lot of time left to do this for them. I am glad that my great grandchildren will have something I made for them. And I fully expect to be able to hold them while they wear it!
Grammylew,
This is beautiful. I can't believe it. That is the afghan I was talking about with the pineapple border! I will get out the one I made for myself in eggplant color and take a picture tomorrow. Doesn't the border take forever to do? When I made one for my nephew's wedding, I was sewing the border on in the car on the 10 hour ride to Ohio. I wasn't able to attend the shower so I brought it to their wedding. I made it in a cream color.
You do beautiful work! I'm really going to look for another pattern to work on. I'm bored with the current one I've been doing. Do you have any good patterns?
I'm so glad you were able to beat your cancer. Please get checked regularly. I thought I had beat it too.
Hugs,
Bev

Bev, yes the border does take forever, and I can see you sewing on the border in the car. I think it took hours to sew that on! It is a small world! I would love to see yours. I probably have 50 pattern books. It's hard to find something other than the usual ripples, or clusters, etc. I try to find ones I can match a baby sweater and hat with! I'll look to see if I can find something interesting to send you.
I am past the one year mark with the cancer. Now I am getting a CT scan and seeing an oncologist just every 6 months. In Sept I can get this dang port taken out. My Sis is a 10 year breast cancer survivor. I definately will stay on top of being checked at the intervals my docs want.
How long were you cancer free before it showed up again? I read your posts with interest. I am praying for you daily. I hope you can get through it again!

Hi Grammylew,
I just got my port and it hurts. Laying on my right side is how I get to sleep and guess what, I can't because of the port. Does the uncomfortableness ever go away? I had Stage 2B Endometrial cancer of the Uterine and Cervix in 2001. Now I have Stage 4B Endometrial cancer metastasized to my liver, colon and tips of both lungs. I was diagnosed in the beginning of Nov. 2010. Not curable.
Here is the picture of the afghan I made for me. I made three others in different colors for different people. This is the style afghan I gave to my DIL that I have never seen since. I put a white towel under the border so you could see it better. I love crocheting. I guess I need to go on-line. There are loads of free patterns out there is cyberspace.
Hugs,
Bev

Bev, that is gorgeous and I know how much time it took. What is that color? I would love to make something in that color.
I can't understanding anyone not using or giving away anything that beautiful that took so much time. After or son married his second wife, her birthday was nearing, and our son told us not to get her anything because she only liked certain things and she had much better tastes than we did. But money would be OK. HA, not bloody likely! Our relationship with them went downhill from there!
My other DIL lives down the street from us and I don't know what I would have done without her during all our family crisis. The death of both of my parents and my whole cancer thing. I thank God for her every day!
My port never hurt. But they put it in while I was in the hospital to treat a bad infection I got during the liver resection. By the time I got off pain meds and out of the hosp. I didn't even notice it was there. Except when my bra strap goes across it. I sleep on that side all the time. My Mom, my aunt and an uncle all had ports and none of them complained of pain. I hope there isn't something wrong with yours.
My gallbladder cancer was stage 2. My oncologist calls me her miracle. Most people with gallbladder cancer have no symptoms
and don't know they have it till it spreads to the liver and the lymph
nodes.
I am so sorry that your's is not curable. It sounds like you have a good attitude and plan on living your life to the fullest while you can.
I hope you have a good support group around you.
