Tsunami - Our Maui Sistah. . .

Karen:  Thanks for thinking of us.  Ron is sick with the flu and was home today while I was out running an errand.  He said the news report said we had a seven inch swell here, in Newport.  We were all advised to get to ground that is at least 50 ft above sea level.  Fortunately, our house is above that.  Wonder how the folks who live right off the beach came out.  Our little newspaper is only published on Wednesdays and Fridays so I guess I'll have to wait until next Wednesday's issue to see the official write-up on the tsunami and how it affected Newport, Oregon.

I am a worrier from the get-go -- so when the reports came on the news last night, I was freaked.  Ron told me not to worry but I find that impossible.

I am so sorry for all those who have really been impacted by the earthquake/tsunamis.

Aloha Cindy........Your words are much appreciated. I'm glad you only had a few inches. That is exactly what happened with Iniki, the hurricane that hit the Big Island. Everyone was racing upcountry to get away from the tsunami they were warning us about. The tsunami was SIX INCHES! You just never know.

I, too, am a worrier and I'm so glad my neighbors didn't pound on my windows/doors....cause then I would have been up all night trying to decide whether to evacuate or not. By the time I woke up, the franticness was all over.....Ha.

Aloha nui loa,

So very happy that all are safe!!!!
Prayers to Japan and her people. I hope we have people here and supplies ready to ship over to help them out. The devestation was horrible to see...looks like a war zone.
God Bless them all and watch over them.

Aloha again friends......It is 7:00 a.m. here on Maui and the sun is shining gloriously with no cloud over the volcano. Almost too bright for my eye.

We heard that on some of the islands the tsunami did some real damage. One beautiful home slid right into the sea and disappeared. They are saying on the Big Island (Hawaii), the water came in 100 feet at a level of 30' high.....ruined much in it's wake. It is heartbreaking to see the pictures from Japan. My friend's son who lives in Tokyo sent pictures of his little apartment and it was turned upside down. He is OK though...that is what is important. I haven't ventured out yet except to walk to the local teeny harbor store for milk, tomato, pay day bar (bad Karen!).

Love that the US is sending 10 ships to help. They say they will await Japan's requests for help, and not rush in and take over. I like that, too.

Thank you so much for all your TLC for everyone involved.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Kstrn

I live on Kauai.  We came through like a charm.

I don't know why the southern islands got it worse but they did.

I own a rental unit in Hanalei which is in the tsunami zone.

My renters had to evacuate in the middle of the night..

They told me the  day after the tsunami warning the ocean was stirred up and acting weird in Hanalei bay but no damage.

Aloha Neighbor on Kauai............went there years ago for my honeymoon. Beautiful island.

Sorry about your renters having to move out. Hopefully all will be put back together soon. My neighbors have a unit right down the street......right on the ocean. They are having to pull up carpeting, fix or replaces appliances, paint, etc. Always something in this wacky world! I try to look on the bright side and be thankful for all the beauty around me, and my friends, family, and all "my" babies.

Aloha nui loa,

Maui Karen

Happy that many of our friends here have checked in to let us know they are ok. . .
