It's Sunny Saturday here in the Northeast - What's Up?

Finally the Sun, what a beautiful sight to wake up to, after a week of rain. . .

Already did a load of laundry, vacuumed, fed the Roxie girl and took a shower, Tony should be here in about 15 minutes and not sure what we will do, but it will be nice to spend time together, one thing I have to do is buy a portable air conditioner for my roommate who lives upstairs, as the central AC does not do a great job up there unless I freeze us out on the main floor and she can't tolerate the heat. . .  meeting with a friend tonight and then going to an AA meeting.  That's my day, how about yours?

Have a great one, wishing peace and strength to those in need.

Hugs, Laureen

Good mornin' ya'll.
Our DIL's candle party was a great success last night. It was Gold Canyon products. They have cleaning stuff, too. I took lumpia (meat and meatless), stuffed mushrooms (meat and meatless), an herb spread for crackers, a fruit spread/dip for crackers or fruit, an apple/blue cheese tart, and phyllo cups filled with brie and jam. All yummo. Unfortunately I had one of the lumpia and after a week of no fat, I felt awful when I got home! I got the lumpia recipe from a great Phillapine lady I worked with at Illinois Bell years ago.
I still have an ant problem. I can't find a starting point for them! I have ant traps out, I have used spray, I keep squashing them but they keep showing up. Our son says the colony keeps sending out scouts. When they don't return, the boss ant tells them to wait a few days and try again.
Today, a few errands, a little crochet. Our younger grandson has prom tonight. Can't wait to see him and his date all dressed up.
Everyone have a fantabulous day!

OK, what is lumpia?? Wishing I attended the party? You maka the yummy stuff.
When we had our grocery store long ago, we had a skunk visit us in the basement. Store is over 150 yrs old then. Our exterminator couldn't "do" anything, skunk was protected...haha. So we asked the local animal expert for help. He came into the store at dusk and sprinkled talc powder on floors. We waited upstairs in our home...scared I was cause if the skunk blew the entire building would be "SKUNKED". Early next morning John traced little paw prints and we found how the skunk was a getting in. (talking like Gabby Hayes now). That night we laid a trap. SARDINES, YES, SARDINES placed end to end from the gettin point to the back door and down the steps. Animal expert in his truck outside awaiting. John on roof over additon with view of back door. Wish we had night vision glasses that night, but the white stripe showed bright in the moonlight as the skunk walked out. Animal expert closed up holes in stone foundation of store and plugged up access hole to store. End of story thank God.

LOL!  Funny story, Monica!  We once had a family of skunks move in under the barn.  My daddy had a heck of a time getting them out again.  The barn reeked for weeks!  It even tainted the hay and the horses wouldn't eat it!

But skunks really aren't all that funny.  They carry rabies.  Had some neighbors once who had puppies sleeping in a box on their porch.  Rabid skunk came up on the porch and attacked the puppies.  My neighbors, of course, ran out to rescue the dogs, and in the process came in contact with the skunk.  They didn't get bitten, but it didn't matter.  They all had to go through the rabies shots.  It was quite an ordeal.

Got to be extra careful about skunks in the south in the summertime!

Monica,

Reading your story about the skunk made me smile, being a City Girl most of my life, I now live in an area, while not a rural area, there are deer, raccoons, chipmunks, rabbits, wild turkeys, hawks, not far from a bald eagle preserve and skunk. . .  I've had occasion to smell a skunk, but never saw one, that is until Thursday night, when Owen and I were driving home from the AA meeting, there crossing the street right in front of us was a skunk, it was quite the sight to see one. . .  my first morning waking up in this house, moving here from NYC, I awoke feeling wonderful, like I was where I was meant to be and I heard my very first woodpecker.  Anyway, your story made me think how wonderful t is to be away from the concrete jungle, even though once in a while I do miss it. . .

Hugs, L

Congrats on another day sober!

Ladies, lumpia is a Phillapino thing that looks and tastes a little like an egg roll. You mix up the guts, roll it in a lumpia wrapper (couldn't find those so used egg roll wrappers), and deep fry it. Yummo. Full of fat, well actually, the guts are mostly veggies, can add meat or not. It's the frying that gets you, of course.
Thanks for the ant tip. I wish I had read that before I went out and ran my errands. But I always need something to start my new grocery list!
Monica, skunks! You have had the greatest experiences. You should write a book. When I was a kid we lived out in the country and our dog was skunked a few times, and also lost a fight with a porcupine once.
Hope everyone has gorgeous weather like we do!

I don't know what kind of ants you have but if they are the little sugar ants, I know a quick and easy way to get rid of them.

There is a product called Taro I believe you can get it at wal-mart.  It comes in an orange box (or did the last time I bought it.)  It is a clear sticky thick liquid that you put on a cardboard disc (included)  set it where you see the ants and they will eat it and take it back to the nest to feed to the queen.   You can wait a couple of hours and check it and you will see ants all around the edges like cattle at a trough.  By the next morning the ants will be gone.  You may see a few stray ones for a day or two but keep the taro out and they will all be gone in a couple of days.  It the only thing I have found that works.  YOu would think exterminators would know about this product.

I use the Taro (Terro?), and it works great.  The only concern I have is the cats, so I make sure I put it in areas that they can't get to, no matter how hard they try.  Inside cupboards (in my case, the ones with the child (cat) proof latches), under appliances, etc.

I believe in live and let live, but not when it's ants in my food....
