Wacky Wednesday What's New?

Good morning, OFF friends,

It is a very nice day here today, sunny, but not too hot.  I am working today, but will be taking tomorrow and Friday off as well as the holiday.  My Air Force son is coming home for the long weekend so I am really looking forward to having both my sons under my roof.

I also take trazadone for sleep and love it.  I have had problems sleeping most of my life.  The only time I slept well was when my boys were little and I was exhausted keeping up with them.  Last year I had a little issue with anxiety and depression and started seeing  a counselor and a psychiatrist and he diagnosed the sleep disorder.  He said you make serotonin when you go into deep sleep, so if you don't get there, you are depleted of serotonin and it brings on depression.

On another front, I have completed all my preop tests and am just waiting for my referral to the surgeon.

Hi Trish and my OFF family:

Trish, I have a hell of a time sleeping; if I didn't have drugs, I wouldn't sleep at all. Fibromyalgia is a sleep disorder anyway. Sometimes it's night sweats that wake me up, sometimes itchies, sometimes pain. I take elavil, neurontin, vicodin, and then if that doesn't work, a benadryl to help the itchies. The key ingredient in tylenol PM anyway is benadryl. It makes you sleepy ... if all you need to do is get sleepy, take the benadryl and forget the tylenol ... if you have pain, then take the tylenol. Just a little trick I learned from my nurse friend Roxane.

Speaking of pain, I have a load of it today. I went to the mall to see a movie (cheaper there, $2.75 at the matinee) ... went to see "Bridesmaids" ... funny but very raunchy, but a nice story too. Anyway, after the movie, I decided to walk a bit around the mall ... bad idea. Hadn't gone far when I felt something give in my back and knee and had to grab onto the wall. I was kinda far from the front door, so I limped slowly back to my car. Ugh! I had planned to go grocery shopping after, but all I could do was go home, get my mail and get the ice packs on. Didn't even get my stuff from Petco in from car (kitty litter and cat food ... too heavy to deal with).

I was going to go to Vicksburg today, but the thought of driving three hours round trip didn't appeal to me, plus it's already 86 and 62 percent humidity. No wonder my body feels crappy. Last night I was in bed by 8 p.m. Even sitting in my recliner hurt.

So no big plans for today. Probably will go to the chiro later, maybe pick up something for dinner. I had taken out some chicken but it was still frozen this morning, and it would take too much effort to cook.

Well, have a good day.

I did not realize that fibromyalgia was a sleep disorder.  That explains a lot.  I have to talk to the doc about this one, because I am already on Buspar and Geodon for my bedtime meds.

Hugs,
Trish

Hi Trish and All OFF Family,
Poor sleep must be going around these days. I've been having trouble sleeping too. The Nurse Practitioner said I was depressed with anxiety. He raised my Effexor and said to use benydral or Tylenol PM. He said I looked like I was in pain. Said it several times. No, no pain to speak of.
Saw 2 doctors and neither of them can figure out why I had that nasty spell at PT that day. Said to go to the ER if it happens again so I can be evaluated during an episode. That's what I'll do. Hopefully it was a fluke and will never happen again.
Cable man is coming soon to hopefully install an upgrade to our system. I really don't like to sit around waiting for the 2 hour time frame they give for arrival, but nothing I can do about it.
My sister started her new job this past Monday. She said the orientation was pretty boring and makes for a long day. She would rather be doing patient care. You would think that as a transfer she would not have to go through the whole orientation. But she is happy to be working full-time again.
Have a great day and prayers for those in storm related problems.
   As ever,   Mag

Hello everyone!  This has been a "Wacky Wednesday" indeed for me.

I don't mean to make light of anyone else's pain, but normally I do not have any pain at all.  I rarely get sick.  Except for the morbid obesity issue, I have always been indecently healthy.  So when I started having problems with shoulder pain several years ago, I would just gulp down some Advil and shrug it off.

But since surgery in Feb, I haven't been able to take Advil and my shoulder pain has gotten steadily worse and worse.  Finally I woke up this morning and my right arm felt paralyzed and I couldn't straighten my neck.  Okay.  Time for the doctor.

Doc has decided that I have bursitis.  Gave me a shot in the shoulder and prescribed a mild pain killer.  So, got a question for you all:  anyone else out there have bursitis, and if so, how do you manage it?

Spent most of my day shelling beans.  Still shelling them tonight.  I'll have to pick them again tomorrow, if my shoulder will allow it.  Should have picked today, but just couldn't manage it.

Always glad to read about everyone else's day.  Hugs and love to all!

I thought my chronic pain was bursitis in my hip, but the doc corrected me and told me it isn't.  I hope you get some relief from the pain with the shot.  I empathize with chronic pain, since I have been seeing the pain management specialist for 18 months now.

Hang in there.  Hope you get your beans harvested alright.

Hugs,
Trish

Stop the shelling, repeative motion is helping to inflame the bursa and make it worse. Ask the doctor for a stronger med, like vicodin, just to have around the house for this. Not being able to take an anti-inflammatory is a real bad side affect of WLS. You don't want these pain killers in your pouch. The vicodin is hycodon with tylenol. You can break them in half and fourths. Ice the shoulder and then hot pack, think about PT or getting it taped up. Be very proactive on making this better. I feel so bad for you. All the veggies coming in and now this.

Good evening OFF friends!!  As usual, I'm late posting but hey, I'm posting so for me that's a good thing...lol.

Today has been us running our wee morning route, home & relaxation, bed early, slept until it was almost time for Oprah then dinner.  Dinner was spaghetti using whole grain pasta and lean hamburger meatballs.  Was yummy.  Then walked my fur babies which they absolutely love!!  It's humid though.  We had some rain last night/early this morning, enough to raise the humidity.  Anyway, when we got home from our walk, we collapsed on the front porch with some iced tea and a nice breeze blowing...enough to cool us down.

Last night's Weigh****cher meeting was rather nice.  Our first time going and was impressed with the Leader, thus far.  She was very full of energy & excitement which is what Danny & I need right now.  It sure has encouraged him, enough so that he has been very mindful today of his food choices.  He's only 10 months out and has let grazing on bad carb snacks come into his life.  When we got home last night from the meeting and dinner out, we sat down and went over the WW plan which in my opinion, is a nice plan.  This morning while waiting on our paper delivery truck, we were talking about the WW plan and decided it will do our whole family good.  My sister, who lives with us, and my daughter who has Downs Syndrome, both have weight issues.  So...wish us luck!!!

As far as sleep issues, Danny & I occasionally take Tylenol PM...only problem is you have to take them 1/2 hr. or so before going to bed.  Unlike Ambein.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day!!

Cindy
