You are very BRAVE to bring a puppy home. One does forget how much a puppy NEEDS. Puppy proofing a house is a special "chore". I had a real lesson over 25 years ago when hubby came home with a lab mix puppy. We had 2 shelties that past away after 13 yrs. The new puppy got larger than these shelties ever got. One day a whole sirloin steak on our very high counter disappeared....found on the living room floor, oooops. Lessoned learned, Lady had reach. Before that day, discovered a huge chunk of sofa armrest missing...Lady had teeth. So I got on the floor and surveyed the house from her point of view. Hard to teach 3 kids to pick up their toys if they cared for them. Hard for us to learn to pick up shoes, clothes, other items that might become an interest item to the growing puppy. How could we get mad at dog if we didn't set limits to her getting into trouble.
Finding life with the 6 larger dogs we had all at once was very interesting. We had puppy's and rescued older dogs thown into the mix. Somehow it all worked out.
With Yoda comes discovery almost daily even after 3 months. He usually listens and is attentive to stern voices. He wants to PLEASE and love praise. We give it often during the day. He doesn't communicate his wanting to go out well. He has never made a mess in the RV. But we fail to realize he needs to go out until we decide to go out and he makes a beline to pee. We are working on this.
Also has issues with other dogs on leashes, dogs who enter dog park on leashes, or run at us. Finding solutions to these issues require US to be aware so problems don't arise. Amazed at services available for dog training, professional photo's taken, dog sitting, walking, pooper scooping, boarding, holistic care, regular vet care, teeth cleaning, herbal meds and supplements...I could go on and on. More services for animals than small children and family's it seems. Right now Yoda has appointment at dog grooming salon. They came and got him and will deliver him home. Hubby and I will drive to the barber shop, get cuts without appointments, and come home, spending less for both of us than Yoda. Too funny. We order special treats from an online store and get his special harnesses at a store online. He spoils us with love and we spoil him with love returned with joy each day. We watch alot of Animal Planet and have found Victoria Stillwell a wealth of tips with easy guidance that really works. Hope you have fun and enjoyment in Baxter's growth within the family he was rescued in.

Monica,

I have already looked into obedience classes for US. Not just Baxter... I need to know how to teach a dog manners.

We had two dogs, Barney and Stanley. I came home one day and all that was left of the sofa was a pile of fluff and the springs. The next day they were banished to the laundry room while we were gone. They ate the door up to the door knob.

Right now Baxter is asleep in my lap, on his back. So adorable until 4:30 am. That's okay, he does bring joy and life to our family.

Kisses

Annette,

Baxter sounds adorable.  My puppies sleep all cuddled up with me during the months that my husband is gone.  But when he comes home, BAM!  They change over to HIS side of the bed in a hurry.  Hubby is not too crazy about sleeping with dogs in the bed, but they don't know that!  They love their daddy!

I guess Baxter got checked out okay with the vet?  No problems?

Vickie,

His appointment is tomorrow. He sure looks and acts healthy.

We have had animals in our bed forever. It is a king size but we end up sleeping on the edge.

Kisses

Hi Annette,
I want a puppy so bad. The last time I had an 8 week old was 17 years ago, Little Bit and Irish were adult rescues.  Love love love dogs. If I were rich I'd have so many I'd have to hire a staff of their own. lol   Mag

Mag,

I agree with you. We have a house full of cats, now the new puppy. I didn't this any thought, just scooped him up and brought him home.

My oldest daughter thought this was a dumb way to get a puppy. No educating myself about the breed or discussing the new fur baby with my hubby first.

He has added spice to a rather dull household.

Good Morning,

Just a quick stop by as I'm working about every day until school is out on June 10th. I now have all of the money saved for my thigh lift in late August so it has been a productive year!

I found like I ran "Karen's Bed and Breakfast" over the weekend. It was fun but exhausting. My sis in law and niece were here from Thursday to Saturday. They left, my son and his fiance arrive Saturday afternoon. Had time to get the sheets and towels washed and get to the grocery store for more supplies. They left early Monday to beat the traffic back to Seattle. We had dropped friends off at the airport who went to Arizona to finalize purcase of a condo. They came back on Monday, Mike picked them up and I had brunch waiting. Had a great visit with them.

SO it's kind of nice to have an empty house again. Must get to the shower. Hope you all have a great day.

Hi Everyone, the sun is finally coming out. It is supposed to get to 90 degress by the weekend. Hooray!  My grandsons graduation was bittersweet. I am so proud of him. They grow up so fast. This week I am getting ready for a garage sale. I am doing some major amputating of my stuff. Our town is doing a city wide sale so hopefully I won't have too many leftovers. Have a great week everyone. Mona
