I thought it looked familiar; I have a photo on the wall (or somewhere) just like that. I didn't climb the mountain, but my friend Roxane did; I took the boat ride between the mountains and the short hike over the mountain that connected them (much easier). Used to live in Montana, so did a lot of roaming in the state. Rox took a beautiful photo of the lakes and mountains looking down ... I have that on my wall, too. I was younger then and had good knees, although I was SMO ... now I'm just plain overweight but have bad knees. So no climbing for me. But Montana is still beautiful. Been to Yellowstone a couple of times, Alaska (Glacier Bay, Mendenhall Glacier ... beautiful places).

Eliza,

Think you landed in a great place as there are many supportive friends here to help you on your journey, there are quite a few veterans and a group of newbies, which is wonderful because it's the fire and sometimes the frustration of those folks that helps keep me going some days through memories of my own pre and early post-op days. . .  I remember the song, just can't recall the whole thing. . .  memory seems to be slipping these days. . .  I'm 56 years young end of this month, so welcome aboard, looking forward to getting to know you.

Dear Eliza,

Welcome!  I seem to be older than everyone--I'm 64, will be 65 in December.  I remember the song, I remember Elvis singing on the Ed Sullivan Show, and I was once even in the audience at the Howdy Doody Show!  Now that's old.

I am two and one-half years out from RnY, have lost nearly 100 lbs, and my type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high blood lipid levels have all gone away.  Each day is a miracle for me.  I also was very fortunate that my surgery went very smoothly, I had virtually no pain, and was able to go back to work after 10 days.  Of course, everyone's healing trajectory is different, but I hope yours will be easy, too.

I think your decision to have surgery now is a good one.  I remember my surgeon making a comment to the effect of "too bad you did not have this 10 years ago."  But I guess I wasn't ready at age 51.

So welcome again to this terrific forum.  You can find a lot of support here as well as advice, information, and resources.   This is a kind and supportive group of people.

Good luck in the journey and God bless.
