Good Sunday Thoughts
Eileen,
Yeah, my hubby will be 67 next month, but he still thinks he's superman. It's hard for him to slow down. I have to walk a fine line between telling him to slow down and not wounding his male ego! LOL!
I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I miss my daddy so much! We lost him 11 years ago to lung cancer. Damn cancer. Butch has also had prostate cancer and bladder cancer, although thankfully both are in remission now. He's just got to learn to take it a little more easy and not push himself so hard. I tell him when you reach our age, you're supposed to PAY other people to do some of this stuff, not still keep trying to do it all yourself!
I making a big pot of chili today. What are you cooking?

Not a thing. I have to work today. I reheated leftover baked ziti (good easy recipe; if you didn't want the pasta, you could sub zucchini or spaghetti squash, I guess). Lots of protein; I use whole-wheat pasta. It has ricotta cheese, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese in it and on top. Yummy! I've been eating the leftovers all week on and off.
I still have chili I made a month ago in the freezer.

Never was much into chili mac; my mom is, and every time I'd have chili, she'd say, "Oh, I love chili mac. Is that what you're having?" I always added beans ...that's the way you make chili.
I know a lot of post-ops can't handle pasta; I've never had the problems. I always have whole-wheat or whole-grain pasta. But, like I said, you can find ways to use pasta recipes without having the pasta.

Well, here in Texas, where chili is almost a religion, the purists will tell you that REAL chili never has beans in it! But I love beans and I always put them in mine. :)
I really haven't had any pasta or rice since surgery, and it cut out a surprising number of my old standby recipes. I try not to eat much potatoes either, although I love them. I haven't had a big baked potato since last January! Potatoes, rice and pasta are on my surgeon's list of no-no foods, and I'm trying to stay compliant.
The other thing I miss is cornbread! I used to make cornbread 3 or 4 nights a week. Never did care too much for yeast rolls, but homemade buttermilk biscuits and cornbread are something of a "religion" in this house. My husband misses both of them, but we're learning to eat whole wheat bagel thins instead. They're good, but they're not Mama's hot cornbread!
(However, when I start missing them, I remind myself of my Size 16 jeans this fall! That does it every time!)

Jo,
Sometimes I get the blue funk. The best solution I have found for banishing it is to either start a new project or learn something new. Anything that will engage your mind and draw you out of yourself for awhile. Others swear that exercise will help, too. I know it does help me if I get outside for awhile. Hope you start to feel better soon.

Jo, Susan, Connie, and I are talking about stirring things up for all of us old timers. Keep coming by because in the next few days, we should have some posts that will interests and benefit you and some of the others. Our goal is to get us back in touch with those people we were the first few months post wls. I think we are looking for our zeal and our enthusiasim. We should work together to beat the weight gain and the attitudes that come from feeling somewhat bored and funky.
