(Sorry to be so late starting the thread today!  I slept in an extra hour this morning!)

Today I am thankful for telephones and email!  These marvelous inventions allow me to talk to my husband daily, even though he's over 12,000 miles away.  When he first went overseas, back in the 90's, we had nothing!  He was in India at that point.  The mail bag took over 3 weeks to deliver a letter.  I had to send him a letter almost the same day as he left in order for it to reach him before hi****ch was up.  Many times he would write to me and then he would beat his letter home!  Those were long months when he was gone.

Then came the faxes!  You remember those old fax machines with their crazy rolls of slicky paper?  I would type everything I could cram onto a single page and fax it off to him.  Half the time the fax would garble it and it was illegible.  And it was super expensive as well!

Now we are able to email each other almost daily, and we get to talk on the phone once a week.  I like to joke around and say I have an internet marriage, but truly, I am thankful for this wonderful world of mass communication we live in.

Hello Vickie-

Today I am thankful that I lost the weight I have so far and for the fact that my father taught me the basics of plumbing.  Had a leak in the RV under the kitchen sink.  Discovered it yesterday and turned of the water.  Thanks to the weight loss, I was able to get down on the floor and under the kitchen sink.  Thanks to the plumbing education from my Dad I was able to determine that the leak was a loose quick connect connection.  Tightened everything up and problem appears to be solved.  I am thankful.

I also am thankful for the internet.  When my DH was in the army and was deployed to various far off spots, I, like Vickie, waited for letters or the occasional very expensive phone call.  Now when my Air Force son is deployed, we can Skype and e-mail.  That is so much better.

I am so very thankful that I am able to do things for myself! Fix stuff, put stuff together, take care of myself and others. I attribute that to my Daddy, who was all about us being independant!

I am thankful for the wonderful man that I met almost 4 years ago, never dreamed that answering his IM at 12:30 in the morning on a lonely, winter Saturday night would result in a relationship that has worked well for what will be 4 years this coming February.  When I met Tony I was 200 lbs., he has been my champion and assures me that I am beautiful, inside and out and when my Dillinger took ill, he came to comfort me, came to take him home from the hospital after his surgery and then when the time came, he cried with me over the final goodbye and then encouraged me to bring the joy back into my home, in the form of Foxie Roxie (a/k/a Bossy ***** she is one (lol) and he continues to be a stable and loving presence in my life, I have no idea if we will ever marry and truthfully, while I hope to grow old and crotchedy together, I enjoy every moment I get to be with him and laughter is the gift we bring to one another, as there is seldom a day that we don't make one another laugh and that it took 52 years for God to put us in one another's path, I am grateful that he is here. . .

My Mantra is that I do not determine my success by the number hanging in my closet, nor will I let the scale determine that success either. . .  It is through trial and error I will continue to grow and succeed. . .  Laureen

Vickie and all,

Today I am grateful for my furnace. It is very cold here for this time of year. It even rained the other day which isn't usual for this time of year. It was 64 degrees in the house when I got up. Even Bela felt cold. I turned on the furnace and enjoyed the house being warm. The temp today never reached 60.
