And I thought I was ordering a healthy meal!

This really amazed me. I went to a local steakhouse and ordered grilled chicken and green beans and iced tea (no sugar). I couldn't eat the entire piece so I took it home and cut it into chunks for my cat. The cat loves chicken. It would not touch this chicken. I went back and asked the manager to check on what was "in" that chicken. The waitress and manager had both said that it was "real chicken". To their amazement as well as mine, the ingredients on the box of frozen chicken said that POTATO STARCH was added along with sodium phosphate. For people watching their sugar intake, you know what potato starch will turn into once it hits the bloodstream. No more chicken at that place. Just goes to show that even if you think you are doing your best to eat healthy, you have to be aware of all the stuff they add to normal foods these days!
It's so annoying eating out. Last week I was on vacation in Hawaii and ordered the grilled veggies as a side and they were dripping in buttery/oily stuff! YIKES!!! I get it that restaurants want the food to taste good, but I hate eating out on vacation; I know the restaurants I typically eat at while at home but on vacation it's really tough and I always come home with a 3-5 lb. gain even while trying to eat well. Today, Thursday, I've dropped those pesky 3 lbs. I gained in Hawaii and, like you, I was trying to be "good". Lucky for us we have tools that we can incorporate into our every day living and those few times we're away from home don't matter much as long as we get right back with our regular routine at home.
