We take our grandkids for long weekends in Hot Springs...day trips to Eureka Springs. But we always stay in one of those old buildings that is now a hotel. I think it's the Parks. It has a Civil War museum inside. It's old and creaky but our grandkids love staying there. I love walking around and looking at the springs bubbling up. It does have a very rich history.
I walked a million miles around an old cemetery in MO and we are about to tour the Laura Ingals Wilder museum.
I did pretty good with my food intake. I avoided glider foods and chose water over diet coke. There's a certain level of stress when driving with the kids (did I tell you in July we are taking them to Yellowstone...on a road trip); anyway, I brought a ton of car games to play and hopefully they will stay quiet.
Yesterday, we witnessed a bit of road rage and it scared my grandkids so badly. I don't know what happened before they sped past us but they ended up both stopping and blocking traffic while they screamed and pushed. I and about twenty others, dialed 911 and the cops go there but not before the one guy was beaten so bad his face was pulp. My husband, bless his heart, tried to break it up, which scared the kids even more but there were a lot of men out there trying to break it up. DH said from what he gathered, the one guy cut the other guy off and they have been chasing each other since. Idiots. The cops interviewed all of us and I gave the cop a card that talks about meditation and relaxation and asked him to give it to the one that was really doing the most beating. He thanked me and said he might copy it and give the copy to the two men who were fighting but he needed it too. Before we said our good days, I told him to be careful out there and he said, thank you mame.
This morning, for breakfast, we had starbucks....I drank a coffee and DH and I shared a vegetarian breakfast sandwich, which was pretty good. We stopped at McDonalds for the kids to get breakfast food. My granddaughter has been excepted into a gifted and talented program at the university. They actually contacted my daughter because my Baby Girl's scores on the diagnostic tests were 99.999, which means a half of a person in the nation scored higher than she. And, let me brag, they said for the test that they did, she scored at a fifth grade level (she is in second) but it was a perfect score so she probably scores much higher. Anyway, her scores were flagged and the person who runs the gifted and talented for the state contacted us to get her in the class. The majority of the kids in the class (14 of them) scored between 88-90 and to have a 99.999 is quite a rarity. So, she is going to this gifted and talented camp in June for two weeks and then in July, when we get back from Yellowstone, she is going to a literacy camp that last for two weeks and the education director of the state has asked the education director of our university to create a program just for Baby Girl. I was with her for the interview and the director asked BG this question (remember, she is 8 and I am bragging and do apologize): Kathryn, what are your interests? BG said, do you mean academic, athletic, or artistic? She said, just all of your interests and I thought oh boy...do you have an hour or six. BG said, I love astronomy and want to lean more about our solar system and need to figure out why the sun's weight pulls all the planets toward it; I also love microbiology because it's amazing. I love to read and love math and love, love, love learning about cultures. I play basketball, baseball, and soccer and hope to play on the high school volley ball team.I have a mentor and am learning all about volley ball now. I love to go to the art museum and I am interested in all the art that shows women who are strong and I love ballet and have been studying ballet for longer than I remember. I am good artists and can draw a lot of different animals. I am not good at drawing humans....then they got into a conversation about how the man who drew all the wildlife in the Everglades learned through anatomy...of course, BG said, does that mean he killed the birds?
Well enough bragging for the day. I will be driving much of the day but will post when we stop again.
Peace...Ladies, please make wise choices today so tomorrow you will not feel regret.
I feel beat this morning. Had a long day yesterday.
We had lunch yesterday mid-afternoon at the Ohio Club. It is a bar/restaurant that was established in 1905. It has been open continuously even through prohibition. They started out as a bar/casino and was owned by the owner of the Cotton Club. Can't remember his name. Hot Springs was a fabulously rich city at one time and the vacation spot of all the New York mafia guys. They killed each other in New York but maintained a truce in Hot Springs. It is an interesting building and was packed. We thought it would be quiet at 3 in the afternoon but there was a biker group there. They were veterans who help other veterans. Good guys but it was so crowded we couldn't take pictures. Hot Springs has many very interesting buildings. Some are still in use and well maintained and others are sadly in bad shape. Such magnificent buildings. You find them everywhere you look if you can see past the tourist shops. Well today we are packing up and heading back to Houston. I am moving slowly but I am moving.
Doing good in SC. I had plans to be out today, take cat to the vet then go to a local scotich festivities...but instead just took "a day off" and stayed home. BF took the car to the vet and since I was not sure I want to be out there in the hot weather - he went by himself.
I did a few things around the house, but not much. Color my hair, did a few loads of laundry..took a nap... And cooked "vegetable" soup ... You start the soup by browning some ground beef... Lol.. We call it "vegetable soup"... Top that with chopped cilantro and 1/2 Avocado.. And the dinner was fantastic. I make mine in a pressure cooker... Turned out very nice.
I had a stressful few weeks and not only my diet suffered, but I also drunk too much alcohol... If I eat things that I am not suppose to (alergy or food intolerances) I get both - severe acid - GERD and hit pains - from mild to very severe. Unfortunately - when that happens - I need to take pain pills or..or a drink,, or 2..or 3.. I was indulging in things I know I should not eat...and that have me an excuse to drink more.. Then morning I needed more coffee. Followed by more coffee....But its enough... Yesterday I decided I need to go back to my strict diet and stop the booze, and limit my coffee...and drink more water...or green tea.. Friday was OK. I had dinner out and I still had a glass of wine... But food choices were ok. Plus less coffee.. (4 instead of 8-10)
Today my acid was much less... And I was able to follow my diet and had only 3 coffees.. I had a mid day nap... So that's good...
And I walked 45min on a treadmill... -2.8 miles... Not bad.
Good start... Hope I keep my motivation ...
I plan to make my almond coconut "cookies" ... I have an herbal conference next weekend :Friday-Monday, and I need good portable food. They feed us there - but with my food restrictions - I can't count they have food there I can eat...and enjoy... I do need to contact them next week to remind them about my food restrictions (no soy, dairy, gluten - grains, corn, etc.). They told me they will do their best to acommodate me...but only time will tell..

the day is almost over but I still have more to do. Got up this morning and drove to pinnacle mountain state Park. After talking to the Ranger I decided not to do the summit hike. It is a switchback trail for about 2/3 of the way and the last 1/3 is boulder you climb hand over fist. No knowing how tall the borders are I couldn't judge if my knees would do it or not. I could have just walked the switchback and turned around but I wouldn't have seen much. Will wait until I have new knees. Instead we walked the 2.5 mile trail through the forest. It was rocky and had a lot of steep terrain but what got to me was the heat. I brough****er and poured as much over me as I drank. It was in the 80's with humidity. Not as hot or humid as houston but I just can't handle it. Thought I'd die that last 1/2 mile. I am now doing laundry so I can pack . We head back to Houston tomorrow
Had no trouble getting my 10,000 steps today. Had oat nut toast with peanut butter for breakfast, a mini burger for lunch around 3 pm. Had a little peanut butter on saltiness for dinner.
I'll tell you tomorrow about where I had lunch. A very historic place. I'm too tired now.

it's not the book that,s the problem. It's the bag or box of goodies that sits next to me in my chair. Lol
Jen, Eileen, and Ladies,
Just a quick post on our way out. I hope you all have a great day and make wise choices. If you get a chance, do some stretching and some meditating...
Hi Jennifer and my OFF family:
Sorry I've been missing. I stop in here and read, but don't always post.
I did hear from my PCP about the heart monitor report. The news: I've got rhythm (cue the band!) and it's not abnormal. So all's good. I go back to the cardiologist on Thursday. I've been to the Y twice this week; would have gone on Thursday, but it looked like storms and they would have pulled us from the pool ... and in fact, it did start lightning about the time the class would have started. Instead, I walked around Walmart for a half hour. (My bank is in there, and I had to deposit a check and pick up a few things.)
Work has been the usual, just more depressing, pondering the future. I have to work the next few days, including the holiday, then have Tuesday and Wednesday off, then work Thursday, then have a long weekend (Friday through Wednesday) to go up to the Chicago area for my mom's 92nd birthday. Looking forward to see the family and some friends.
Have a good day.
Hi All:
Tried posting previous days but somehow lost in cyberspace. No one has posted yet and is already noon in the East. Hopefully you are all busy with Memorial Week end activities.
Here it is hot, going to be in low 90's with Humidex, is what it feels like although officially cooler. We have many city streets blocked off for Race Wkend, with Marathon and Half Marathon scheduled, but organiers thinking of cancelling or shortening as too hot. Barely a week ago we had night frosts killing early sprouting crops and garden plants. Our first heatwave, and came on suddenly.
Eating was better yesterday, today supper will be leftover bbq pork tenderloin medallion shredded on a salad, and just had brunch: 2 coffees, boiled egg and buttered toast, in an hour or so will have a piece of fruit....
Activities are going to be inside in cool of my AC, several loads of laundry, tidying up for cleaner tomorrow ( yes, am messy so need periodic cleaner to make me tidy up before), and then half hour aqua exercises by myself in my condo pool...little kiddies if there with grandparents, are fascinated by my exercises, so hope there are none today. Also have to repot chives and a hibiscus to bigger containers, will do this evening and treat myself to a glass of cold white vino on the balcony before supper, then movie inside on tv...going to be relaxing although mostly indoor because of the extreme heat.
Enjoy your weekend, stay safe and stick to your resolutions ...
