Chronic pain is so tiring. You go to bed in pain, wake up in pain. It is there all the time. When I think if doing something - I often wonder "how much pain can I tolerate today" hoping that "today" is going to be the day that my pain would allow me to still do things.

What is worse - my body is getting used to narcotics. Building tolerance. It takes more and more to give me the same relief. I used to get sick on just 5 mg narco. 2.5 gr was more than enough. 5 mg used to put me to sleep (or made me really sick if I tried to move around)

Now 5 mg just takes the edge of the pain.

I can't take Vicodin. It hurts my pouch. Really hurts. Not sure why.

Aw Connie, don't be embarrassed about the electric wheelchair. You do what is necessary. Some really bad days I need a walker and thought people were pitying me. People don't care, we are our own worst critics.

The Butrans patch is helping, but need stronger dose so pharmacist has sent a fax to my Doctor. She warned me I will never be painfree but hopes to reduce the pain to background noise I can live with.

Good luck Connie.

Hi....yes Narco/Vicodin is all that works for me and not completely either. I take doses every 4 hours....8 doses a day.

All my information has been sent in from all the doctors and PT and others. Now I am just waiting for insurance to okay it. I am getting a electric wheelchair. It embarrasses me to need one, but, I do need to be able to get out of my apartment. That will help with that!

I hope you can one day be pain free....to late for me.

Hugs.....connie d

Topic: RE: revision

You did not mention your enlarged pouch and stoma in your previous post. That sounds positive for a revision as you need restriction. You mention in a post elsewhere you have an apt with the surgeon, let us know how it goes. And if you get Medicare's OK for a Revision share it with us.

Stoma and pouch enlargement for found on a EGD done about 5 years ago but the insurance I had would not pay for revision. I am on now on medicare and have a better chance to get approved

No surgeon will do a revision unless there is something mechanically wrong meaning the surgery did not work (Stoma or pouch made too large, or other complications). Surgeons don't redo a surgery of this type just because you did not respect the surgery as you can't have another 36 inches of small intestine bypassed or your pouch made even smaller if original surgery worked. Sounds as though your original RnY worked well as you lost 130 lbs. Your regain according to your own description was because old habits came back so you ate around your tool. Sounds like you are going to have to lose your regain the old fashioned way by going back to basics and use your existing tool efficiently. Reduce your portions, eat correct foods, ditch the carbs and sweets, back to walking or whatever you did to get those "feel good" endorphins back.

You are not the first to have regained , you just have to decide you really want to get back to where you were before your bad habits took over. You had good habits, so go back there and see how you do...good luck and wishing you self love and determination: you can do it!

Actually, the patchcomes in several strengths and is a narcotic ( Buprenorphine) continually absorbed through the skin to avoid taking pills orally. You can add oral narcotic medication for breakthrough pain on bad Days, I use Hydromorphone (Dilaudid) taken orally.
