Sleeping in abdominal binder?

How long did folks sleep in an abdominal binder after their tummy tucks?  I wear Spanx during the day, and switch to the binder an hour or so before bedtime when I put on my jammies.  I'm still wearing the binder at night, in part because it keeps me comfortable, but I'm starting to get tired of being bound up all the time!  I'm 5 weeks post-op today.

I have a f/u appt w/ my surgeon next Monday and will get his opinion then.  But just curious what other folks have done....

I was told to wear it day and night for 4 weeks following my panniculectomy.  I did that for 3 weeks, and then started taking it off at night because I, too, was tired of having it on ALL the time.  When I confessed to the PS, he laughed and said most people abandon it at night even before then!

Thanks for your reply, Lora.  I look forward to feeling comfortable sleeping without the binder; hopefully I'll have the nerve to try doing so soon!

I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow from TT/BL and wear my compression garment all the time.  Mine starts under the breast and goes to the thighs.  I hate the feeling of not having it on.  I imagine I'll continue it for at least another month or two.

Hi Kellie -
Due to all my complications, I still wear a binder sometimes at night and I'm 5mo out from my original LBL, and 2 mons out from my last surgery due to complications which was only across my back and hips.  I wear a compression garment about 2-3 days per week.  I understand the bound up feeling.  There are days when my muscles still feel odd without a binder/garment and I get swelling if I'm without them for more than a few days in a row.

I was told to wear it for 4 weeks.  After two weeks I would take it off for an hour or two before bedtime for a little relief plus an hour in the morning while showering and getting ready.  My PS had me wear it a few weeks longer as I had an infection and he wanted the pressure to help drain any pockets.  I just stopped wearing it this last week.

I am addicted to mine, not a binder, I did not wear that anymore after the drains came out.
But I wear the compresion garment I got from Makemeheal.com.  I wore it for a good year day and night after my LBL in 11/06 and Now I am in an upper and lower because of the upper body work I had in july of this year and lipo to thighs.   My PS wants me in upper compression another month till my next followup and the end of Nov.  because of my arms.  Helps make the scars flat.  I love my bolero type from Makemeheal.com, it's maker is Raney.  Just feel better and I like the look under clothes for work, smooth upper and lower.

All this talk about the binders and compression garments is bringing up some questions in my mind.  I am wondering why after having lost all of this weight, and having another surgery to get rid of this skin, do you really NEED the garments or is it just something that makes you FEEL more secure and comfortable.  Do the results of your procedures not look good without them?  Is your tummy/back not flat without it?  Am I too going to feel like I need to wear it for more than required by my surgeon?  If I am going through all this to be all bound up, why not just bind up and deal with the skin and not have the surgery?  Most of us are having these subsequent surgeries so that we won't NEED the support garments any more.  I am so confused!!

You do not need  the garments and binders to flatten or enhance the results.  Some wear them because the are very active and need them for swelling or swell for a long time in general.  Some wear them becasue they feel more physically secure in them.  Others get a little too attached to them because they make feel secure.

I still wear a bra almost all the time 9 months out of my breast lift.  Without implants, I am a 36DD with very compromised skin and I want to keep them up there.  Going braless whenever I was home is one of the main reasons they got into the shape they were. That, their size and genetics. Well, I still have the size and I still have genetics.

Good luck, Loris

Loris, I am having surgery this summer and am doing a breast lift. I am also a 36DD and my PS said I don't need implants. I was wondering if you could tell me what size you ended up being and if you were satisfied with it? IBy the way, you are somewhat of a close neighbor, I live in Maryland. Thanks, Beth
