Plastic Surgery in Mexico
Did you have WLS? Do you have a lot of skin to be removed,? please research with a PS, cause I was told that our skin (frm WLS) is not ideal for smart lipo we can have liposuction but not the laser/smart lipoour skin does not have the elasticity to go back. and it can take like a year to see the final results from lipo I wanted to have the smart lipo but then decided aginst it. I just recently had tumescent lipo done on my upper abdomen and my PS said he can tighten the skin tht is loose but not till near a year post-op.
Good Luck to you

My thinking is with traditional liposuction I have no chance of skin tightening. The fat is removed and usually the skin looks worse as far as being loose. With the new technology and the research studies I have read at least I have a chance. I realize the benefits depend on lots of factors but for areas like arms and thighs a bit of tighening may elimate a surgical procedure. You should ask them for photos you would be surprised - I was. Or you can email me I will forward what they sent me,
You see the same results as far as fat removal and I believe have to wait up to 6-12 months for full skin tighening results. Either way I have nothing to risk.
Your best choice would be to find a local surgeon. It is instructive to read through this board...including the last few days. You will see many individuals with issues and questions many weeks after their plastic surgery. A fair number of these require treatment.
Most of these individuals would be best served by seeing their doctor and having their issues treated locally.
That being said, if your doctor is out of town, you may have a hard time getting a qualified professional to evaluate you, make recommendations, and intervene if needed.
If you are out of the country, you also need to realize that in addition to not having your PS immediately available, you have no legal protection, limited access to the regulatory agencies to check a clinic's acceditation, and probably no insurance coverage if you need more care while out of the country.
Touch ups, which are common after this type of surgery, would also require travel and it's associated expenses.
Of major concern is the risk of blood clots after a large surgery, followed by travel.
I will make a post about this today or tomorrow.
My hope is that individuals who have travelled for surgery will share what preventative measures were undertaken to prevent blood clot formation after their surgeries.

what do you recommend then for affordable plastic surgery here in the states? I was given a quote for breast lift and tummy tuck of nearly 16K, I would still need an arm lift in a second stage if I went to them - I would love an option in states
I owed it to myself to research the duodenal switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information. Remember think twice, cut once, revisions are risky and revision surgeons are rare.

Hi Vicki. University programs may be available in your area where senior plastic surgery fellows (usually those who will open their own practices within a year) are supervised by an experienced doctor.
The key is to be sure the supervising doctor is an expert in post-WLS plastics.
Many of these programs also offer Cosmetassure insurance, which covers complications that may occur within the first 30 days.
The average fee discount (at least at the Baylor program where I supervise) is about 50%, making a tummy tuck and breast lift around $10 k (that includes anesthesia, OR, and overnight stay).
That may still be more than going out of the country, but you will need to decide if staying within the system here is right for you.

Thank you for that information. I have been on the phone all morning to the University of Louisville and no one seems to know what I am talking about or if such a program exists. I did, however, find something online and sent an email to a doctor involved in the Plastic Surgery Fellowship program. I only hope he is as forthcoming with information as you have been. Thanks again. Sounds like this would be the answer to everything if it works out, staying in the country and saving some money.
