Help on recovery time for LBL
My dearly loved amazing and wonderful but very stubborn and work driven boyfriend is going in on Monday Feb 1 for his LBL (lower body lift) problem is he is determine and refuses to take "NO" for an answer...anyhow he is to be in NM for 3 days Feb 11-13...is this possible?
I know it's not the brightest idea for him to be doing this but it is very important for him to be at this work event.
What were your recovery times for the LBL? When did you go back to work?

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!
And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!
Surgery Date: 6/5/07

Doable for some, I would not have been able to do it. My energy was low and I still had drains in (drains can kinda be hidden though). I had surgery Sept 25 and went to a friend for tanksgiving dinner (oct 10 here) and I was ready for bed after 2 hours and should not have been driving... I did not have lipo and has a fairly easy recovery. I am sure if he wants to do it he will, he won;t be standing up-right and may look funny, but he could probably be there and do it.
He may be very surprised once he has his LBL and sees how hard moving around and daily life can be. Hopefully, he will be fortunate, and heal well, quickly and with no complications. I was complication free until about 4 1/2 weeks post op. I had a good sized seroma, but it was going away, and being managed weill with aspirations. Once I started pushing myself harder, and resuming more activities, the seroma became infected while I was out of town on a trip. Even with doing that well, I wouldn't have been ready to go on 3 day trip less that 2 weeks out. You have no strength, you might be walking hunched over, you have lifting restrictions that make carrying or even pulling luggage hard. He might not need much in the way of muscle repair since he's never had a baby stretch out his muscles, and hopefully, they will not find a hernia to deal with, but if he has muscle repair, he shouldn't be lifting an over night bag into or out of his car.
I listened to a surgeon tell someone yesterday to allow 3 weeks healing before returning to light duty desk work after a tummy tuck and double that for a LBL. We want these surgeries SO bad so that we can move on with life, but if we don't really allow the time to adequetly heal, we could be doing far more harm. We've waited this long to lose the weight, to get healthy, allow the time to heal properly after surgery. This might mean postponing somethings, which could include the surgery itself. I've issues following each procedure, and my healing has taken double or triple the amount of time that my surgeon or myself would have guessed. Yes, that is discouraging. Yes, it is EXTREMELY mentally challenging, and you even feel like a failure because you are not living up to the "standard" -- but remember that this is NOT a race. Alllow the time to heal because your body will make you allow the time. Something will give. I allowed 5 weeks for my legs to heal before resuming classes - that wasn't enough time and the class schedule and complications were draining. I did allow several weeks for my arms, - had finished all my classes so I wouldn't be stressed so much, but just sitting still and dealing with complication is stressful and draining.
I would suggest to him that he wait on one of those two things. Maybe even ask the surgeon Monday morning before surgery if it is a good idea to plan on that trip.
Good luck!
