I'm sure you are disappointed. I had to postpone my plastics that were scheduled and paid for last July because of something that suddenly popped up in a routine medical exam. I ended up having surgery in Sept so I fully understand your frustration and disappointment but trust me, it's better to have surgery being at your healthiest possible...you'll need to be strong during recovery.
Keep us posted.
Best wishes!
PS- I buy the molasses at my local supermarket
Sorry for your problems. The surgery is a big stress on your body, and you need to be in the best shape for it !
Anemia after WLS of any type (incuding the band) can be very difficult to treat. I start months ahead of time if possible, and at least identify those individuals in whom I need to get to work on by drawing labs when we first meet.
They type of anemia is important to figure out, and once that is done the best treatment is prescribed. There are several ways to do iron supplmentation, for example.
Occasionally, I will have a patient with a very resistent anemia that no matter what we do is still a issue. After "fixing the fixables" we will go ahead with surgery with the understanding that a transfusion may be more likely.
Individuals who are well-conditioned (i.e. cardio fitness, spin class, runners, etc) tolerate anemia much better than couch-potatoes, so a conditioning program can go a long way in individuals with anemia.
The key is to NOT have any surprises the day before, or worse, after surgery !
