My Bariatric surgeon did the repair and said it was more painful than a TT(which she was trying to talk me into) because of the tightening of the muscles. I don't remember being too hunched over but I did use liquid pain meds and stayed home from work for a week. I think I wore a binder for another month.
It was painful enough at the time that I did not want to even think of anymore surgeries. But I can't even remember how long it lasted now and I am ready to go have TT and anything else I can get.
Hope this helps.
I have heard others say, though, that it wasn't bad for them, so it's kind of a crap shoot I think.

Hello, our bodies are all different but here is my story. I had a hernia repair two years ago and did fine. It was emergency surgery and recovery was ok not very painful at all. I had my abdominoplasty with muscle repair on the 20th. I compare it to my gastric bypass. The first day was painful but once I got up and moved that evening I felt better and was on pain med until Sat evening. I have only had tylenol at bedtime since then. To me it is more a discomfort feeling not actual pain. My biggest thing is being hunched over. It is just inconvenient and uncomfortable. Not sure how long this will last but it has been 5 days and still hunched. Hope this helps some.

At 6 weeks post-op, sometimes I have to remind myself to stand up straight. I have both the TT incision and a revision of my old GB scar, so I have the anchor cut...not sure if that has anything to do with it. But when I stand up straight I can still feel the pull on my "new" GB scar and the muscles underneath.
The worse part for me early on (weeks 1+2) was the back pain from being hunched over; in weeks 3+4 it was the muscle spasm; in weeks 5+ it is the swelling! But each day seems a bit better, so keep your chin up!!
