Ok be frank and honest about PAIN

The first day was the worse for me. The pain pills really helped take the edge off. I think my csections were a little worse for me too but then I was 100 pounds overweight. I really expected the paint to be worse than it was. I had the LBL so i would hope the TT is a little less painful.

I had an extended abdominoplasty on Tuesday a.m. with a breast lift/reduction. Today's been the worst so far but even then, i can't say that I am in pain other than an occasional ouch. I am uncomfortable and have discomfort but I don't think I can say I'm in pain.

Right now, the thing that hurts most is where I had some light lipo on my hips right where my binder sits. It's pretty darned bruised but it's not horrific.

I'm sleeping in a recliner but otherwise I'm good.

I had a c-section in 1999 when my twins were born and I recall that hurting more but then again, they never showed me how to get out of bed properly, etc and with this they did. Right now, I feel like my milk has come in from the swelling.

Oh - and like the previous poster, I was 270 lbs when I had my twins vs 185 today. And I had 2700g of skin removed plus 800cc of lipo.

I have a high tolerance for pain.  I had laproscopic RNY (with gall bladder removal), hysterectomy, knee (ACL) reconstruct/debridement, and all the plastics listed in my siggy.  I think the worst pain was the RNY.

The hysterectomy I expected to be as bad as the RNY but it really was not that painful at all.  The nurses were amazed that after coming out of recovery, that I could slide over to my hospital bed on my own.

The knee surgery was nothing, even after the nerve block wore off.  I expected the plastics to be extremely painful but I don't think at any point I went above a 5 in a pain rating.  The most difficult part were the thighs and mobility.  And of course the swelling.  I had problems with the drain in my right leg, but it wasn't painful - just cumbersome to deal with at the time.

I am late on this reply but with abdominal surgery especially, you as a patient should request....no, insist...that your plastic surgeon use a pain pump. The On-Q pain pump is excellent and can be fiiled with sensorcaine that can last for 6 days. This is a thin catheter(s) that run through the abdominal wall and help to "numb" the area where youre having the most pain....right on top of the muscle repair/plication.

I use this on every one of my belly patients....ZERO exceptions...and it makes a tremendous difference for pain management.
