Aloha Val-
Please don't sweat it now- whatever happens to your belly button can be fixed later, and your scars and shape will change dramatically over the next few months so in a way, you are a work in progress as it is!
Your job is to get in enough protein and rest to heal as fast and well as possible- if the blood supply to your belly button has been compromised and that's why it's black, it can always be repaired later- but you want to get in enough protein so the rest of your incisions heal well.
Be well- XOXOLori

Thank you and Aloha Lori. I will make sure to increase the protein. My doctor was concerned that I was not eating enough so I have tried to increase calories and protein and fluids.

Aloha Again-
The protein is SO important, Val- and I have zero appetite anyway, had even less post plastics ( CBL/BL/BA was a much longer procedure than the VSG I had or RNY you had- my plastics took almost 7 hours). I upped my protein 3 weeks pre op from 75 g/day to 125 g/day and maintained that for a good 6 months post op ( I lift weights and work out almost daily, I need the extra protein for that). My doctor said he'd never had anyone heal as fast or well, I'm convinced it was the increased protein and adequate calorie intake. I used RTD shakes ( Myoplex Carb Control, Isopure) because I can't stand the powder and can't get enough in physically with solid foods to hit those levels. Not only does the protein provide the basic building blocks to repair skin and muscle, but it also bolsters your immune system to ward off potential infection.
Again, even if your belly button does necrose ( die) and slough off, it is an easy fix and will no doubt be perfect if your PS does have to revise. So don't stess. PM me your personal email address and I'll send you some great recipes for high protein soups that are very tasty, easy to make in batches and freeze well. They'll come from my yahoo address ( too long to post in a PM).
Be well, relax, keep walking and moving- XOXOLori

This is not so uncommon especially if you had any laparoscopic procedures before. It almost always heals with very llittle extra care, and a revision is always possible a few months down the road, but rarely necessary.

Thank you Dr. L. I have a question. I am two weeks out, how long does it take for the sutures in my muscle repair to heal where I am out of danger of popping them from sneezing, caughing, or picking stuff up off the floor etc?
