I didn't use one.  So don't guess I know what I missed.  My doctor didn't really recommend it, he said the studies were inconclusive that it helped very much.

I think its better than pain pills. Doesn't drug u heavily that u r excessively sleepy and doesn't make u as nauseous as full oral meds may. I used it the first two days then moved to Tylenol3.

I think I'm going with it. My only concern is if it works too well am I at risk for injuring myself those early days. I should be so lucky to have pain relief that good. I remembered my husband had a pain pump with one ankle surgery and not the next and he thought it helped a lot.

Thanks for the feedback. I feel better about my decision.

I had one with my RNY and I thought it helped... but since I had never had that type of surgery - I can't say if it was better or worse than another method.

I asked my PS about it for my LBL and he said that it wouldn't do any good since it is mostly useful for localized pain and not the larger regional pain that he would be causing. He also feels that is overall psychosomatic as well.

Turns out my PS numbed me up so well on the inside during the surgery that I really didn't feel any pain in the local area of the incisions. All my pain was well controlled with the morphine for a day in the hospital and then with Percocet afterwards...
