This is a great question. I was hoping to be able to come off of the met after surgery. I guess it all depends on each person and how their bodies react.... I can still hope... I haven't been on it too long, and I won't have surgery until some time in Feb. probably, so we will see I guess. Jenifer

they took me off of it after surgery but i wondered if at any point people have to go back on it or if the weight loss manages the PCOS effectively

I was coming here to ask the same question.      I'd love to be off Met for good!

I went off metformin the day of my surgery and have never been back on it.  My diabetes is gone and I've had a regular period ever since then.

I went off of mine pre-op and was back on it 3 months post-op.  I have been a slow loser with it, so I don't think it had affected my weight loss at all.  Although, I have had regular periods for the last year, the first full year of being regular in my 21 years menstrurating.

I too have not taken Metformin since the day before surgery and have not needed to go back to it as my glucose & insulin levels are normal.   I do know a lady on my WLS Divas thread on www.soulcysters.com who did go back on Metformin and continuted to loose weight after reaching a stall.  But she's pregnant again so is back off of it. What are these med? I've never heard of them.  was dx with PCOS about 2 years ago, but I've never taken anything like that. In fact, all my doc ever prescribed was Birth Control & Glucaphage. He said something about a possible insulin resistance having to do with all of it. All I know is that neither has helped. I still have a lot of pain even when I'm not on my period. Plus, I have really bad acne & increasingly bad hair growth... on my face, arms, stomach... Anyone have any suggestions?
