I found the following things helpful to have on hand:

A pillow for the car ride home, to protect your incisions.
Gas X (for the gas they pump into you, got rid of mine fast).
Clear liquids (of course).
A pillow to prop you up in bed.

Hello everyone.  I've been a member for some time and really enjoy reading the posts, but have never posted.  After trying to meet all insurance requirements since May, I finally got approved and scheduled for Dec 29th to have lap band!  Hooray!  I was just wondering what tips anyone might have about things one can do to be best prepared for this surgery (other than the 1500 cal liver shrinking diet  for 2 weeks prior)?  I had to do a 6 mo physician supervised wt loss attempt prior to approval and lost around 22 lbs (from 281 to 259) so I hope this will help.  Any advice?

Thank you Mell and Hislady,

I appreciate in your responses.  I think I am going to to have to think about this a little longer and maybe get a second opinion.  I am afraid of the sleeve so I'm going to research it so more.

Thanks again,
Miriam

I'm definately not a supporter of any kind of band I think the sleeve is a far superior surgery and has far fewer problems than any of the bands have. As a rule once people start having any issues with the band it doesn't get better only worse. If you can get a sleeve I'd say go for it!

Funny I have a lap band I just talked to my Doctor yesterday during my fill about the difference. I also had to have it replaced and had a hard time finding a doc who uses the LapBand. He told me he did not like the construction of the Realize band that when it is filled it seems to widen the balloon not push outward so the restriction is not the same.
Good luck!

  Good Morning OH Friends,

Hope everyone has had a great week and is looking forward to the weekend.    Can't believe in a little over a week it will be Christmas.    WOW Where has this year gone?    LOL   Today I am so grateful for my WLS and everything that it has brought to my life.    For anyone reading this who may be trying to decide whether to have WLS or not.....I say GO FOR IT !!!  I have NEVER regreted for one second the decision that I made almost 7 yrs. ago to look into WLS.    I am so grateful for my health,  maintance of the weight loss ( with a small gain over 6+ yrs. )   I am grateful that I chose such a amazing WL surgeon who genuinely cares about ALL his patients.    Grateful for all the things that I can now do due to having lost the weight.    Grateful to my family who didn't support me in my decision to have WLS at the time I had it done but totally supports me and believes in it now.   Grateful for insurance and for support groups that are SO important in our WL journeys.   Grateful for Obesity Help and all the message boards and wonderful people here.   Grateful for my Faith and answered prayers and grateful for second chances.   PLEASE share with us if you will what you are grateful for today.    Have a blessed weekend !!!

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian
