I had the Realize, but I posted in both places because I go to both places (seems like more activity over on the Lap-Band forum).

I had my fill Tuesday, and the doctor talked with me a lot about how to move me downward (I have been circling 200 pounds for a couple of months -- 198.6, 200.2, 199.0, 201.0, and this morning, 197.6).

His advice was to cut back 10% of whatever I'm eating. If I feel satisfied with that, cut back another 5%, etc. He said some people can tell better their limits and their satisfaction level and some can't (I am apparently in the latter group!) But he thinks doing that will help me get to the right place of eating just the right amount to make me satisfied but not too much that I can't lose weight.

I saw my GP today (had a physical), and she was so proud of me (as I am of myself!) But she thinks -- given the results of my bloodwork today, which I won't know for a bit -- that I can probably halve my cholesterol medicine and soon will be able to halve my Metformin (diabetes). And she recommended I try cutting back on my Nexium -- instead of one every day, take one every other day. If I don't have symptoms, go to one every third day. If those things happen, I'll hardly be on any medicine at all!

Topic: RE: 9.25cc of fluid and I can still eat!!!

Ebonet123,

The first question I have for you is how big is your Realize band? While 9.25 cc may seem a lot, maybe for you 9.5 or 9.75 is the correct about. Yes these may seem like small amounts, but it could make all the difference.

Secondly, have you spoke to your Doctor, Nutritionist and/or Psych Doctor about your dilemma? There are numerous reasons why you may have a non-full feeling. One could be, while you may be eating “correctly" you could be eating better. Example, while you may be hitting your Protein numbers, remember not all proteins are the same. A more solidified protein will keep you fuller longer then a liquid one. A 4 ounce piece of steak may keep you fuller than a protein drink.

Here are more questions for you: Are you sure you’re following the all the rules? Are you hitting your Protein numbers? Are you following the ‘drinking liquid’ before/during/after meal rule? Are you getting your allotment of liquids in? Are you eating regularly? Does each meal take at least 30 minutes? Are you taking your vitamins? Are you exercising? Are you snacking/grazing? Are you going to support groups? Are you comparing YOUR success by someone else’s? Are you journaling your intake?

I’ve heard that some people are full on 4 ounces of protein and 1/2 a cup of food. NOT ME. I know I need about 6 to 8 ounces of protein, and 2 cups of vegetables (BROCCOLI NORMANDY) in order to feel full. And I need to make sure my meal last 30+ minutes or I am not full.

We’re all different, and what works for one may not work for another. I STRONGLY SUGGEST speaking to your Doctor and Nutritionist. A slight “correction" can make the world of difference.

Good Luck on your Journey !!

Tom

Well I havce heard of a few bandsters that have had more than the 10ccs put in their bands as they will hold a bit more than is stated but usually most are under 9ccs I think. It's hard to tell because each person is different. It may also need to be moved to where it will give you sense of restriction, maybe it wasn't put at the best position when placed. Hopefully others smarter than myself will post with better ideas.

Ebonet, I would like to hear the experiences of others as well.  I am a newbie.  I just had my surgery in May and recently got my first fill(5 cc).  I can't eat as much, but I wonder if this would continue.

So I have had my band for over a year now and I am starting to get worried.  I have 9.25 cc of fluid and I feel like I can still eat.  No getting stuck, no sickness, no nothing.  I have only gotten stuck 2 or 3 times but other than that I feel fine.  Now I do eat a WHOLE LOT LESS....but I worry.  When I went in for my last visit I still had all of my fluid.  Is anyone else experiencing this with their realize band??  I guess I thought I would only be eating 1/2 cup worth of food and be full, but NO!!  ANY THOUGHT???????

Topic: THURSDAY GRATEFUL POST
  Good Morning Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.   Can't believe how quickly the weekends keep coming.  It will be Christmas before we know it.   Scary thought huh??   LOL   Now back to my post.  LOL   We all have so very much in our lives to be grateful for.   Life doesn't guarantee us anything and to be honest...most of us ( Me included ) take so many things for granted.    Life can be taken from us all at a moments notice.    This post is to remind us of the many small and large things in our lives to be grateful for everyday of our lives.    PLEASE share with us if you would like to what you are grateful for today.   Today I am grateful that I was born with 5 fingers and 5 toes and all my body parts.    I for one take that for granted everyday.    I am grateful for my arms, legs and the body that I have since my WLS....even though it is SO FAR from perfect....it is MY body and God blessed me with it.    I am grateful for my husband who is so sweet and loves me unconditionally and I love him too.   Grateful for family and friends.  Grateful for everything that comes my way.    Health is also something that I for one take for granted and I am so sorry for that.   I am a very healthy person and for that I am truly grateful.    Sorry this is so long.   I am going to put a link to a video.   If you didn't see it yesterday.....please take a minute to watch it.   It will give you a "new perspective on being grateful" !!
Have a wonderful day.

Topic: RE: discouraged
so, the nurse emailed me yesterday to ask me if i could come this thursday.  hahahaha.  i said, no, i told you in my email i would be out of town and wouldn't be able to come until the 14th if i couldn't get in last week.  then she said she was on vacation last week and thought me email came this monday.  whatever.
i have an appt on the 14th.  she also emailed me a realize questionnaire to fill out - i.e.- what foods do you eat, how long does it take, when are you hungry & how often do you vomit.....   really?   how often do you vomit?  if i were getting sick, that would mean i have good restriction.  again, whatever.
as far as the fills, mine are included for like 9 months after surg, i think.  it's at least 6 months, anyway.  i do believe they fill slowly because he did say when they are quicker to fill with a larger amount, he's had patients sick more often than not.  i would be sick as well if i were eating crappy food.  i took my girls to mcd's the other day & stole one chicken nugget.  yep, it wasn't pretty.  same for bread.   which is fine.  good, as a matter of fact.  i don't need to eat that crap.  but i also don't think i should be able to eat  a salad that could feed a family of four, either...
i'm not giving up yet, and i'm definitely on the nurse's sh*t list, as she is on mine, so we'll see what happens on the 14th.  until then, thanks again all for your support!
