  Good Morning Everyone,

Hope your having a great week so far.    We ALL have so much to be grateful for.    I have something to share with you this AM that I found somewhere.   I know it really HIT home with what it said.   Here it is.

Stop being so unhappy with yourself.    You are perfect.   Stop wishing you looked like someone else or wishing people liked you as much as they like someone else.    Stop trying to get attention from those who hurt you.    Stop hating your body, your face, your personality, your quirks.   Love them.   Without those things you wouldn't be you.    And why would you want to be anyone else?   Be confident with who you are.    Smile.   It'll draw people in.   If anyone hutes you because you are happy with who you are then stuff them.    Your happiness will not depend on others anymore.   Say to them....."I am happy because I love who I am.   I love my flaws.   I love my imperfections.    They make me....me.    And that " Me" is pretty AMAZING !!"

As WLS patients we ALL have some imperfections after massive weight loss.   This is a major issue that I have.    But this really made me think and I am grateful for whoever wrote and posted this.   I am grateful for the person that I am....I am a very caring and giving person.   I am grateful today for ME....the person that God made me to me.    And when I feel unloved and down in the dumps.   I know that HE loves me and is always there for me.    PLEASE share if you will what you are grateful for today and have a blessed week.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

  Good Monday Morning Everyone,

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and are now ready for a great week ahead.    I know I have a very busy day today.    I am SO grateful for my life since my WLS.    It's hard to believe that it is going to be 7 yrs this coming fall since my RNY.   Life isn't perfect but it is SO much better than before my WLS.    I am grateful for all the choices of WLS available today.   The only choice I had was RNY or Lapband.     Since I LOVE sweets...my surgeon said that Lapband wouldn't  be the right choice for me so I had RNY.    I am SO grateful that I did.      I am also so grateful that my bariatirc surgeon pointed me to OH for support and encouragement.   You guys are ALL AMAZING whether you know it or not.     Support is such a BIG part of our WLS and so are support groups.   I am always amazed though of people who NEVER attend any type of support group at all.    My life would be pretty bad without them.    I always walk away with more knowledge than when I walked into them.    PLEASE share with us if you will what you are grateful for today and please have a wonderful Easter week.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

I Receive ALL of Life with Thanksgiving.
I have gratitude for EVERYTHING that has ever occurred to bring me to this moment.
I give thanks for the joys and the sufferings, the moments of peace and the flashes of anger,
the compassion and the indifference, the roar of my courage and the cold sweat of my fear.
I accept gratefully the entirety of my past and my present life.

I am post op 12 days. My band was place over a 5 year R-N-Y gastrict bypass. The reason for this was because had severa dumping syndrome; early and late that was not controlable by diet. (never left the soft food stage and can not comsume more than 3-4 oz) The thought was that the nerve that controls the digestive system was damaged during the R-N-Y and caused all kinds of problems.. Things are looking up tho! =) So my main question is I am able to locaate the port. it is smaller than a dime and does not parteude, how ever..Right under my bra line in the middle of my abdomen is a 2 inch by 2 inch square thing.. it feels to be about 3/4 of an inch thick..I have no idea what this is? Any ideas? Im not even sure i am in the right forum..I habe been bumped around so many =(

Sounds like scar tissue that is very common and not a concern, assuming that is what it is.  There will be two lumps, one is the port and the other is the scar tissue.  The scar tissue will go away with time, usually 2-3 months.

I'm sorry the band didn't work out for you but keep in mind, long term it doesn't work for most people.  What you experienced is the natural progression of the band.  I had one too, but I could only stand it for 18 months before I revised to a sleeve.

Since you clearly do well with restriction alone, why bypass?  Why not a sleeve?  The weight loss is the same long term and a sleeve is oodles safer than bypass.  Easier to live with as well.

I hope you can feel my hugs over the internet. Sorry to hear about your experience. I firmly believe things happen for a reason, and in the end it all works out.

I have a suggestion – please go and speak to another Doctor or two to get their opinions. I have no idea who your Doctor is, and they are probably a very good one. However if you’ve been having these issues since August, and they are just NOW making their decision, I would be a little concerned. Now if you haven’t been making follow-up visits, then that’s a legitimate reason.

There are other options out there besides bypass. You may want to look into a different band (lap band); the sleeve (which is like the cross between a band and bypass); as about a BIB (some Doctors have trials concerning this),

Maybe what you’ve learned so far will help in your future. I know a person who had the band, lost weight, had complications, had the band removed and gained only 20 pounds of her lowest. It’s been over 2 years now, and she’s still doing fantastic.

Good luck, and know no matter what happens, I am here for you!!

Small correction here, a sleeve is not a cross between a band and bypass.  A sleeve is absolutely nothing like bypass, not even close.  They are very very different procedures.  Pretty much opposite procedures.

A sleeve is actually the safest surgery type long term, not a band.

Hello Mike,
One reason why I chose banding over other types of surgeries was that it was a non- invasive procedure and the recovery period is quite rapid. Banding clearly is not for everyone, there is a lot of work involved as you have to maintain active and choose the right foods to obtain results. Personally, that is exactly what I was looking for, a tool to keep me on track. I think that I would not be happy with other types of surgeries that have major secondary effects.

Good luck

What's the value in least invasive when it has the most complications?  Sleeves are far safer long term than banding is.  And it requires just as much work as bands when it comes to food choices, etc.

What in the world makes you think bands don't have major secondary effects?  They have more than sleeves do!

Hi Everyone!  I am considering wls and I was wondering why you chose Banding over other surgeries?  Why did you make this choice and are you happy with your choice or do you wish you had done something else in hindsight?

Thanks,

I was banded and after 18 months I couldn't take it anymore and revised to a sleeve.  I got to goal with the band but not because of it, but instead in spite of it.

The band has the slowest weight loss, the least weight loss, the highest regain, and the most complications of all 4 major surgery types.  Think long and hard about this, according to Allergan 88% will have complications with the band.

If you want to get a band may I please ask you just to read here for an hour or so?
