My surgeon only does the REALIZE BAND. Different from the "lapband"...it is like lapband is a brand name that people just call the band , much like koolaid, jello, bandaid, kleenex. Also, according to my Doc, the Realize Band is stronger and thicker and has a smaller chance of slippage. Almost like "new and improved" lapband. I hope I am giving correct information, but this is what I understand.

Hi Damon,

Welcome to the board,

Can you Feel the band when you move, exercise?
I can't feel the band at all, I can find and feel the port if I'm looking for it, but when it comes to daily exercise I can't feel it.
How Long before you started losing weight, I am 290, would like to know what I can expect to lose 1st month, then monthly (following rigor of post surgery diet etc)?
Everyone is different when it comes to losing weight, there isn't a set amount anyone can tell you. They normally say if you are losing 2 lbs per week you are in the green zone. I lost weight faster than the average band patient due to my size. I weighed 454 lbs going in to surgery, and lost around 35 lbs the first month.
What foods can you definately...NEVER Eat Again?
I try to avoid bread, pasta, any type of food similar to that as much as possible. Some bandsters can eat these with no problems, others can't. I probably could if I really wanted to but those aren't really foods we should be eating anyways.
Anyone ever get stopped at Airport/Cruise when getting scanned/wanded (do you carry card from Dr about having band)?
The band isn't anything that will set the detectors off, I have went through metal detecotors and had MRI/CT Scans done many times since being banded without a problem. I do keep a realize band card in my wallet, I have never has to use it, but I guess it's good to have just in case of an emergency.

There isn't a really a difference between the 2 bands, they just have different manufacturers. I actually thought I had the lapband until I went to my first post-op appt, then I was told I had the realize band. Good Luck with your appointment and your WLS journey, with whichever surgery you choose!

  Good Morning Everyone,

I am not in a grateful mood this AM.   I am having mega stress in my life at the moment and am very upset about it.   PLEASE keep me and my family in your prayers.    We are going through trials right now with my 26 yr. old son in Teen Challenge.    When I went for their service last night he wanted to leave the program.    He is 6 months into a 12 montn program.    They are wanting to send him to a facility over 300 miles away from my home.    I am totally heartbroken about this.   My son's are my life.    I do understand and I did talk him into staying and hope ( although I don't want it to happen ) that he will go to the other facility and get back on program and get his focus on getting  better and not on being with his GF.    I guess today I am Grateful for Teen Challenge even though I don't agree with all they do sometimes.   I know that they have my son's and all the other men best interest.   I know that if my son left the program now it would probably be only a matter of time that he would go back to using drugs.   Please keep my son and my family in your prayers.    Thank you so much.    PLEASE share if you want what you are grateful for today.    God bless you all.

Hugs and blessings ~~~ Vivian

Topic: Thinking about Realize or "other" Band - HELP!
Hello,

First, Hello to everyone. These boards look like they have a bunch of great people on them!
I am aprox 100lbs overweight.... and thinking about lapband.

Have not had surgery and I have an appointment on Thu for my Physical. I have been researching the different types of "bands" but would appreciate some feedback on personal experiences with both.

Can you Feel the band when you move, exercise?
How Long before you started losing weight, I am 290, would like to know what I can expect to lose 1st month, then monthly (following rigor of post surgery diet etc)?
What foods can you definately...NEVER Eat Again?
Anyone ever get stopped at Airport/Cruise when getting scanned/wanded (do you carry card from Dr about having band)?

Any information is helpful, again I am gathering information from MANY sources, so please help me gather more, to help me, make my decision.

I want to lose 100lbs total. I have type II Diabetes.....etc...
I do like to exercise and have knowledge of HOW I should be eating.

Thanks,

Damon

  Good Morning Everyone,

Today I am grateful for my health.   Life would really be sad without good health.   For you *****ad this that believes in prayers I would like to ask you if you would to pray for a young man who WAS in Teen Challenge with my son.    He is probably mid 20's and has liver cancer.   I went to return my son yesterday after his 2 week illness with mono and Neil was leaving the center for good to seek treatment for the horrible disease.   He needs LOTS AND LOTS of prayers coming his way.    I am a very lucky person.   I have ALWAYS had good health even when I weighted close to 300 lbs.    Please don't take your health for granted.    We have no guarantees of good health in our future.   If you are post op....PLEASE take your vitamins and do as your surgeon tells you to do so that it will insure your good health in the future.    PLEASE share with us if you will what you are grateful for today and please don't forget to keep Neil in your prayers.   Have a blessed day.

  Good Morning Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great weekend.   Today I am grateful for solutions for our addictions.   Yes....I DID say addictions.    Did you know that we are FOOD ADDICTS !!   Yep...that is right.    I am SO grateful for my WLS and all the choices of WLS today but WE still have to take the bull by the horn so to speak with our addiction to food.     With say drug addiction for instance a drug addict can live without facing those "demons" daily....but daily we have to face our addiction of choice ( FOOD ).   I know all this first hand.   i have a 26 yr. old son who is in Teen Challenge ( Christian substance abuse program for teens and adults up to 65 yrs old. ).   He was a IV heron user and we had no idea it was that bad.    He has been home for over 2 weeks with mono and going back to TC today so PLEASE if you believe in prayers....pray for him.     He has said it will be hard going back ( he's been there 6 months and it is a year long program ).    I have been stress eating since he has been home so I have to face my addiction and retake control of it later when he is back.    I am SO grateful that there are solutions and answers for OUR addictions and that we can retake control of our lives.    SO Grateful for God because without him....I know I personally wouldn't have the strength to handle the things that life throws my way at times.    PLEASE share with us if you will what you are grateful for today.   Have a blessed day !!!
