Topic: RE: My name is Tom, and I am an addict!!

Hi Tom, I'm Mandi, and I'm also an addict. I did just recently have surgery, but I am finding myself in such a quandry right now (you may want to view my post, so I don't re-bore you with all the details, lol). I'm glad you took the time to share your struggles and thought processes, as it makes me not feel quite so crazy on this journey. I do notice one of my biggest times to fail is when my husband is home. When I smell and/or cook dinner, I start thinking over and over again about how "one small bite" isn't going to hurt, and why not? Well then that osb turns into more than that, and I have already had a dumping episode that was not pleasant. I don't know of any other way to rectify this,  but if you have any suggestions, I'm open to any of them. I'm almost contemplating asking him to eat before he comes home, which is probably not the healthiest thing!

Thanks for listening :-)

I can do this...I know I can. It's just going to take time & patience.

Topic: I wished I thought logically... (kinda long!)
Hello everyone! I just had surgery on December 30th, and am trying to adjust to life. I thought I was pretty well prepared, but while my "logical side" was, and "irrational side" was not, lol.

I have a million and one recipes, articles, sites, etc to guide me. I actively participated in my life skills classes, shared my concerns with my NUT, and have even started trying to focus on getting a handle on my food addictions. However, I am allowing stress and self-doubt to slowly creep their way into my journey, and it's terribly frustrating! Here are some examples:

I regularly keep in touch with some of the people I met along the way, and was encouraged when I heard that one of them already had her first fill only two weeks out. I have not been feeling any restriction since about day four, so I thought that maybe this would be a good idea for me as well. I had my first post-op appt yesterday (12 days out) and was told they usually do not do a fill until minimum 5 weeks out. Said WLD buddy goes to the same practice, just a different location. I understand the dr's reasoning, so now it is up to me to really practice self-control and common sense to drag this weight off of me and keep losing until my first fill. I know I can do it, but sometimes I doubt it.

Next, I am hearing that other WLS buddies are already eating regularly, just smaller portions. I tried this, and it does not bode well for me, lol.

So why is the irrational side of me going through this?! Is this completely normal? And should I maybe cutback on correponding with these folks, as it is becoming increasingly apparent that I am starting to compare myself to them, which is not healthy at all?

Thanks for letting me vent

I can do this...I know I can. It's just going to take time & patience.

Just knowing you are normal feeling hungry is gonna help with the anxiety about being hungry. It is normal and you will probably stay that way until you've had a few fills. It takes awhile to get restriction. Hang in there!

Topic: RE: HCG, anyone?
From everything I've read about it, it is just a scam and of course you will lose on 500-600 calories a day even without the HCG drops. Save your money for new clothes when you get to goal. If you are following a bandster eating program you will already be eating almost that low on calories.

 Hello Tom,

Thank you so much for your advise. I think I was having a mental moment  yesterday. It had to be because I ate the exact same thing as yesterday 2.3 oz of yogurt for bk, 3 oz of chicken for lunch and 3 oz of chicken for dinner (baby food consistancy) and I am fine today. plus my water...
Once again thank s for reading and your advice..

My first advice CALL YOUR DOCTOR!!! That's why they are there. Secondly, are you following all the 'rules' concerning your phase? Are you getting in all your protein, which is important to weight loss and keeping you full? Are you drinking with your meals (which is a no-no for many)? What type of foods are you consuming? Remember each Doctor and/or Nutritionists have their own beliefs, so contact them. I could give you some examples, but it may be different what they told told.

Good luck, and know I am here if you need help.
Good Luck on your Journey !!
