Revision with Dr. Alexander in Dallas

Well, I am in the process of trying to get a revision. I initially had surgery back in November of 2004. I lost 118 pounds and maintained that loss for almost 3 years and then I started slowly gaining it all back. I am about 40 pounds away from weighing what I did before I had the initial surgery. Has anyone used Dr. Alexander in Dallas for their revision? If so, what do you think of him? I had my initial consultation with him and my husband and I were both impressed but I wanted to see if I could find someone who had actually used him.

Thanks,
Shawna

What surgery did you have in 2004?  What type of revision are you looking into?

I had gastric bypass in 2004. The surgeon that initially did the surgery didn't do it correctly. Or at least that is what I have been told. I know that I didn't help matters either so I am not going to totally blame it on that. That may have played a part. He is going to revise the bypass.

Have you read NeeNee's post?  She had her RNY revised, and is quite happy.  You can always do some research and consider the RNY to DS as well.

Here is NeeNee's post:
http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/revision/4390190/Just-had- my-Revision/

There are several people working towards a revision from their RNY to a DS as well.  Just keep reading!!!!

Just keep posting and let us know how you are doing and if you have questions!!!!!

I had Dr. Alexander do my revision and while I'm happy with my results he's a mill surgeon. He's done THOUSANDS of surgeries and in my opinion promotes horrible eating habits/tells you to starve yourself. I also had to have 2 complication surgeries and when in the hospital I was told that they saw a lot of his patients with revision from lap-band. I think that is common with any revision from band to roux-en-y. My first complication surgery I had to be cut open. (not laproscopic) I'm not saying don't use him I'm just saying see a dietician and use other sources besides him telling you to 'watch your diet like a hawk' and unless you like waiting at least 2 hours everytime you go to see him then I'd find someone else. Honestly, him, Dr. Barker, and all of those Dr.s that advertise on TV have done the surgery 100s of times so they just see $$. The good thing about Dr. Alexander is he makes you sign a form saying you'll pay him 1500. In all honesty, I gave them $300 and they haven't asked for a penny since. I honestly will not be using him for my abdominoplasty as I have heard and experienced too many horror stories in the waiting room. Just do your research.

I could have written this exact email myself, although I didn't have complications I was told to eat only soup until all of my weight was lost. Anyone would loose weight only eating soup.

I followed the soup diet until I realized that I totally felt like crap becuase of it. Yes I lost weight but I felt like crap.

I too had to wait at least 2 hours for each appointment. They tell everyone to be there at the same time and it's first come first served.

I trust his surgical knowledge it's just sad his aftercare is so bad.

I went with Dr. Alexander because of his experience at performing revision surgeries. I will agree that the wait time in his office sucks sometimes, and that I take a lot of what he says with a grain of salt. But I'm happy with my decision to go with him. I like that he has an entire staff of people, so I wasn't having to go all over the place to see different specialists like I did with my lap band doctor. I also really like his nurse, Anne. I would not choose him for any plastic surgery just based on the scars I have from my revision surgery, but I would have chosen a plastic surgeon anyway so that's no big deal.

For me, the most important thing was experience at revisions, and I have no regrets on my decision to have Dr. Alexander do my surgery.
