Revision a week ago

Hi everyone, I had a revision last week of my sleeve gastrectomy plus lap band as my lap band broke.  I feel like i've had and had to pay for the same surgery twice.  I'm curious as to how many people have had the band fail?  All of that aside, I'm still starting over on my weight loss journey and hoping to reach my first goal once and for all.  I did well until my band broke.

You had a band over your sleeve?  How did that work for you?  If you check out the failed band group, there are hundreds here that lost their bands.  About 50% lose there band 2-6 years out.  Just page thru this board also and you will see the majority here had failed bands.

BAND REMOVED 9-4-12-fought insurance to get sleeve and won! Sleeved 1/22/13! Five years out and trying to get that last 15 pounds back off.

I believe the sleeve to be the better tool. I never had my band filled except for what they put in at the time of surgery.  I went for a fill because my weight was creeping up and found that it was broken.  The band is not reliable long term. The sleeve gastrectomy is where the hope is.

I can feel your pain. I had my lapband place 9/2010 and was a cash pay. 6 months into it, my port became infected and had to be replaced and now I just found out it is completely eroded and needs to be removed. Consult in 2 weeks with another surgeon to check into removal and revision.

Hi Kerry,

My doctor is no longer performing the lap band surgeries alone except for in rare cases.  This is because the long term stability of the band materials are not proving durable.  I also have the sleeve which is what I'm relying upon for my long term weight loss, becasue the band is iffy at best.  If you ONLY have the band, I suggest you look into the sleeve instead.  I've found it pretty good at helping me maintain weight loss.   I would not advise getting another band with what I know now.
