I had open RNY at Lenox Hill hosp. in NYC 3/03. I have lost 80lbs so far but stopped losing after 9 months. It has been confirmed that my pouch had stretched at 11 mons. I am now 20 mons out and still need to lose at least 100pds. would appreciate any good references in NYC or Long Island. My Dr. is against re visions and says I need to work harder. I didnot have this surgery to stop losing at 80lbs. I am now at 280. I struggle not to gain weight, it aint hard, as I don't dump and can eat a lot (Help!) Tks in advance for any info anyone can offer on surgeons and revisions to lapband.

You can do what I did which is to contact individual surgeons directly. I suggest you start with the ones on Long Island. You may have problems if your PCP is against it. The insurance can be a problem also. They'll want to know why you need a revision. I have a staple line disruption and couldn't find a surgeon in NJ who would both do the surgery and accept my ins. I had to go to a looking for surgeons in Pa.

I see that your post-op BMI is 60+---and so I'm going to recommend that you REALLY consider being revised to the DS (duodenal switch), if possible. It's the form of WLS that many medical professionals think is THE best choice for patients with a BMi greater than 50, and it's proven to have the best long-term results for amount of excess weight lost and KEPT off. I'm also going to recommend you contact Dr. John Husted at the Cumberland Center for Obesity Surgery in Nashille, TN. He's a revison specialist, and very experienced n the DS as well. If you'd like a link to his website, his phone #, etc., e-mail me directly--OH forbids posting such *very helpful* info here.

Hello Jeana I had a rny in 2001 lost 60 then stop, for the next three years I tried to lose the weight by diet,to no sucess. Last year I started reserching revisions and I decided on a ds. the ds has a better success rate for people with high bmi and a even better success rate for long term success in keeping the weight off.In my research the lap was rate one of the worst for people who needed to lose a lot of weight and it is very restrictived. just today I had a friend post on the yahoo ds revison board as well as the main ds board with the same problem as you, only her band ruptured and she still has a lot of weight to lose.My advice to you is to research your options, you're not alone. There are several experienced REVISION doctors in NYC and this is the type of doctor you'll need. I have a appointment with one of them Dr.Herron at Mt.Sinai on Jan 13 .There also Dr.Gagner and Dr.Pomp these doctors are the top in the field. Good Luck to you and e-mail me if you have any questions I'll be glad to help. kim
