Topic: Blind Loop removal after Gastric Bypass plus other issues

Hi. Please help me plan for the surgery. I heard I can not lift for 6 weeks. Does that sound right? I roll over and sit up a disabled person. Will I be able to do that safely or should I try to hire people to help? I have relatives who will come for a short time but not six weeks.

Pain wise, will I be able to go off pain meds in a few days? The worst was the gas in the stomach. Last time I took pain meds for four days but I can not handle hydrocodone anymore. It gives me unbearable headaches and I want to sleep. I also get dizzy. Do you have any suggestions for pain med?

They have to remove the blind loop, check intestines for other issues, tighten the stoma, and make the pouch smaller. I never lost all the weight and three surgeons say my pouch was made too big.

I had 3 surgeons refuse to do the surgery because they say I need someone who specializes in revisions of gastric bypass. Do you all know any surgeons who would do it? I am in Dallas, Texas but can travel. Thanks.

Topic: RE: What side of your body is your band on?

I had one surgeon assistant try to fill my band on the left side... and my port was on the right! I thought he was just poking around until I felt the needle go in. I asked, "What are you doing?" And he said, "I'm trying to access your port." I informed him that it was on the other side. Left that place with a huge bruise on my gut. I'm a big fan of fluoroscopy-assisted band fills!

Yeah the port is on my right and I had nothing like a previous scar for them to use so I was just asking because for this top bariatric Dr in our area to be surprised freaked me out a little so I thought I would ask lol.

Topic: RE: VGS switch to Bypass due to GERD?

I had a VSG 8/13. Sy surgical weight was 220 and I got down to 145. I did well until about 1 1/2 years ago when I developed GERD. I would wake up in the middle of the night choking, and needed 2 pillows to sleep. Sometimes, even that didn't work.

When my surgeon told me that was common with a sleeve, and the treatment for it was actually a Bypass, I was quite thrilled, as I had gained back 35 pounds.

I had the Bypass on 11/6/18. I feel really good, I've lost around 20 pounds (much of that was water), and the GERD is totally GONE!

This surgery was not as tough as the first one, as I knew what to expect. I did however, experience a lot of gas pains (both from the surgery itself - CO2 gas) and from the startup of my new plumbing!

At any rate I hope this helps. I was a bit daunting for me, as I had reasons for not choosing a Bypass initially, but I have no regrets. I feel great and quite relieved. The long term effects from not successfully treating GERD can be quite devastating.

I hope this helps!

Your stomach is located on the left side of your body. The port can be placed on either side of the abdomen because it has tubing that connects it to the band. Mine was on the right side because the surgeon used a previous surgical scar, rather than creating a new one. The band can't be felt from the outside, but the port can be. Is this what you were asking?

When I changed surgeons, they were also surprised that my port wasn't on the left side, but when I explained the reason why, they didn't seem to think it was anything to be concerned about.
