Topic: Overstitch Revision Info

Hey there,

I'm 13 years out from RNY and lost 100 pounds. 2 years ago I started gaining it back. I went to my surgeon and he referred me to another surgeon who does the Overstitch procedure. I was approved and am having it done in a few weeks. I don?t know much about it as far as recovery, diet afterwards and all I've read is mostly info that?s a few years old. I know the success rate is iffy, but I believe this will give me the oomppff to get back on track and live the lifestyle I should be. I swear I wouldn?t ever go back to this and now I?m here again and miserable. I need this change and any info or experience anyone has had would be so greatly appreciated.

Thanks all!

Jen

Thanks for your response to my post. I think that there should be a difference as well. After all, having the sleeve probably prepared me as well as the nutritional counseling for the last six months.

Thanks,

S

Thank you! I didn't really see the liquids only as necessary but it was what I had read. I love my carbs but definitely need to limit them a lot!

I've been up and down on my weight since this started. My original date of surgery was 2/5/05. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money for a revision. I didn't know if it was maybe considered a "health issue" they would pay for it.

Topic: RE: Gastric bypass in 2013 and now having a revision of the gastric bypass. Anyone done the same ?

I just had a revision to my bypass with another bypass on Thursday. In post op pain and drugged a bit so pardon my typos. It's great your surgeon is t trying to scam you with a band over bypass or some nonsense. Revision from bypass to bypass is the best! So far I'm doing great, apparently my first surgeon left me with a pretty big pouch. What questions do you have? I will check in after my nap, lol, I'd forgotten how exhausting this is.

Topic: RE: Revision what is new?

My surgeon said the band over bypass is a complete waste. Turns out my first surgeon did not give me a small enough pouch, so he went in. Gave me a new tiny pouch and reattached the intestines to make sure I had the 130cm removed that they recommend. Anything where they stitch the stoma or staple inside the stomach is a scam. Nothing works except another bypass. Occasionally you can get a DS

I've rarely met someone with sleeve who didn't eventually go to bypass. The intact small intestine makes all the difference in the world. You're going to be so glad you did it, the weight will fall off compared to your sleeve. Good luck.

I had my pouch redone on Thursday, my first doctor did not make the pouch small enough. I had slow loss and eventual regain. Now I have a tiny pouch and hopefully it works this time. Insurance did not pay, they usually won't pay for any revision even if it's medically necessary. The total cost was 18k and well worth it! I finally feel that restriction everyone talks about.

Topic: Revision from VSG to mini bypass or transoral incisionless fundoplication

I have severe GERD and am 6 years post op from VSG. My GI dr has suggested a revision or trying a

transoral incisionless fundoplication. I don?t know which one to do. I have gained 20lbs back from my VSG and like the thought of possibly loosing more. But my main thing is I want to help my GERD and regurgitation. My fear with the Mini bypass is the malabsorption? My husbands aunt had the bypass and had to have it reversed because she could not get nutrition (but she had severe health problems before her surgery and after-not related to the bypass) she has a form of MS. Anyone have bad malabsorption and had to have it reversed? If you had revision from VSG to mini did it help your GERD? The other procedure he suggested is making a longer esophagus with my stomach.

Many suggestions would be great. Thanks

Topic: RE: Band to Bypass or Sleeve

Funny because when I originally started considering a revision a couple years ago, I thought no way would I do bypass. It has always scared me. But the more time goes on, and the more I read and research, the more I'm wondering if I should just go bypass. I do not have any reflux issues now, but I do have a feeling I may have damage to my esophagus and/or stomach. Like you, I occasionally get stuck on dense foods, and my band is empty. I have an upper GI Wednesday and I'm so anxious to see what it shows!

I am going to Dr. Colacchio out of Southcoast Medical. I have heard great things about Dr. Pohl as well! Also, I grew up not too far from Putnam. I was just there a couple weeks ago at the Black Dog. :)
