Topic: RE: Band to Bypass or Sleeve

I'm getting my band out after getting it placed in 2006. I get it out October 16th. Then in January I am being converted to the sleeve. I too have received no fills in the last few years but sometimes gets stuc****asionally. The weird thing out of all of it when they did my x-rays and fluoroscopy, which is different from a barium swallow, it shows that my band is still in a great position but I'm suffer from reflux which has qualified me for the removal.

Topic: Band to Bypass or Sleeve

I met my surgeon this week and gearing up for a revision. I have the band, it's been pretty much useless since I had my twins 7 years ago. I still get occasional stuck episodes, sliming, etc., even though it's empty.

I will have an upper GI done next week to see if it has caused esophageal damage. If it hasn't, sleeve is an option. If it has, he will recommend RNY.

I've always thought I would definitely want the sleeve, but I'm half expecting him to find damage and tell me RNY is my only option. RNY just makes me nervous with potential complications. Anyone regret going from band to RNY? Or regret band to sleeve?

Topic: RE: Band to Sleeve-one or two surgeries?

I thought I'd post an update since I met with my surgeon. He does revisions in one surgery (phew!). I am getting an upper GI test done next week. The results of that will decide whether I can do the sleeve or if bypass is the best option. We'll see how much esophageal damage has done by this piece of junk. But, it sounds like once I get all of the appointments done, I should be good to go in around January! EEK!

Topic: RE: Surgery Tomorrow Revision

I am having a revision from lap band to RNY in three weeks. I'm nervous about the recovery time. I'm only telling a few family members and only taking one week off for surgery. My surgery is on a Wednesday, and I'll be back at work the following Wednesday.

I know everyone's healing is different. What was your recovery like the first week?

Well that's kind of what I was reading about this so called pouch reset diet. It's basically starting over from when you first had the surgery and doing what you were doing or eating and drinking in the very beginning and then slowly introducing healthy foods and small portions again. Same thing like you said with drinking as well. I don't really eat sugar as it is and I don't drink so that's not an issue. I think it's my portion sizes. I was going to try that then see about a revision but from what I'm hearing I won't be able to get one unless there is something wrong. My insurance may not cover that.

it is not necessary to go back to the beginning ,like right after surgery, with liquids. Many find themselves hungry on liquids only and start eating off plan.

Go straight to dense protein, beef, chicken, fish, eggs etc. limit carbs as severely as possible.

There are no guarantees but the bypass should help with the GERD and you can reduce your risk of the types of complications you might have with bypass by taking your vitamins, (I suggest getting the best vitamins you can and staying on top of your labs), and following your post op guidelines. Be aware of the types of complications are most common so you can seek care if you need it and know where you would go and who you would see. That is the best I can think of. Good luck

Topic: RE: Revision what is new?

I did not have a revision TO a bypass but I had a medical revision to a type of bypass, (if that makes sense. Some of my other posts explain it more). I have read some poor outcomes with band over bypass. Do you still have the band in? There are still options with bypass, from pouch revision and stoma tightening to distal revision. When I went for my procedure there were several stoma or pouch revisions on the unit I believe
