Have you tried to go back to basics? Eat dense protein first followed by non-starchy vegetables, weigh your food, track what you eat with an app like MyFitnessPal, don't drink during a meal or 30-60 minutes afterwards, drink more than 64 oz of water a day, don't drink excess calories, no added sugar or processed food.... A revision may not help if the root cause of your regain is due to overeating.
As stated in this article on the main page, "bariatric surgery does not necessarily curb psychological cravings for foods, nor does it necessarily change emotional eating patterns."
I also forgot to mention that I developed spinal stenosis in February 2018. Requiring two shots of steroids. I'm still sore!
I underwent my inital RNY at the age 0f 20. Throughout my twenties I maintained quite well. at 29 I got married... since that time I have been gaining back my weight. Last year I took a new job and in the last year have gained about 50 pounds. Before my RNY I weighed in at 335lbs. At my lowest I was 165lbs (looked sickly) but promised myself to never go over 200lbs. Felt and looked great at 180lbs. I am now back to 260lbs. I no longer experience dumping and can eat basically anything. I am considering a revision but am nervous my PCP wont support me(referral), two have a lot of shame. My BMI also does not meet criteria as it is 38 (not the magic 40)... wondering what others have gone through and what their experiences have been?
Hi Kimberly,
I hope everything went well for you! I'm 3 days post op and am doing pretty good. I revised from lap band and recall recovery being a bit easier likely due to it being a different surgery.
I've had my remorseful day but am back to feeling good about my decision.
Keep me posted on how you're doing.
Kelly
I'm glad you had good doctors who fought for you. So sorry it did not pan out to be covered. :(
It seems so unfair to not cover the next step in ensuring your progress is not lost. I really despise the current state of insurance as it pertains to bariatrics. Our co-morbidities are still very real risks that we must manage. After years of having "help" they just abandon us? It's really a miss in my opinion. sigh....
Thank you. If a revision is not covered, I think I'll try to manage my weight with Keto first. I am not the same person I was when I got banded and have much better habits. Maybe that's enough? If not, Mexico is a cost-effective option, I just don't think it's the direction I want to take initially. :)
Wow! I can't believe you are posting right after surgery. So glad to hear it went well. I have mine tomorrow. Good luck to you! Keep us posted!!
I'm having my revision tomorrow. I had a full RNY in 1999, gained the weight back, have two hernias. Basically, the Dr said they do it differently now. My stomach is three times it's size and the stoma is three times the size as well. He said it didn't stretch, it was just the way it was made then.
Can anyone tell me if they are having a revision soon? Also, stories of their revision, was it harder recovery (which is what I'm hearing), etc.?
Thank you!
Kimberly
I'm glad everything went well.
Will you be in the hospital for one night or two?
