Why can't we drink coffee?

I have been making myself I 32 oz coffee drink that is 50% milk. I just came across something that said that WLS patients should not drink coffee post surgery. Does anyone know if this is true or if it is, why?

Thanks-
Vanessa

I drink tons of decaf coffee, and some regular. I was told to keep my caffeine levels down, but that I can have all the decaf I want.

caffeine is a diuretic ---- which means it dehydrates you.  I've heard that if you drink 8oz of coffee, then to make up for the dehydration you need to drink 16oz of water to make up for it. Caffeine can also irritate a normal stomach (which is why they have started making a version that's for sensative stomachs) --- so with a new baby pouch, the irritation risk is even greater. And remember the decaf coffee still has caffeine in it.  So be careful with that. Pam

We can't drink coffee??   I know caffeine leaches the calcium out of your bones..so that's not good for us as weight loss patients but nobody told me we couldn't drink decaf.  Mine is always sugar free, decaf with soy milk... Maybe like everything else..some surgeons say it's OK..and others say NO.. Dawn

I drink about 3 cups of regular coffee a day.  I dont drink soda's or anything else bu****er for the rest of the day but I HAVE to have my coffee.  So far it hasnt affected me at all.  Infact it keeps my bowels regular...(TMI) lol  I guess it all depends on your body and your doctor.  I tried the decaff and other types but I always head back to my normal medium roast community coffee.  I have lost 96lbs in 6 months so I dont think im doing so bad.  Good luck with it!

My nut said coffee can stimulate appetite. I'm 7 months out and have been drinking about 1 cup coffee or cappiccino a day and have not had any problems

I was hoping it would stimulate my appetite but so far I've discovered that it leaches out magnesium, calcium and zinc from your system and that effects your skin and hair...Otherwise, I drink some of it cuz I'm addicted to it and have been since I was 12 years old. I'm trying to cut back but it's really hard. Decaf is okay but the only decaf I can handle at all is Folgers. They make GREAT Decaf.
Yes, RNY worked for me but it also requires a lot of work from me!

*shrug*  Coffee is on my diet plan from the doc for full liquids.  I'm not a big coffee drinker though so I don't usually have it.  But my doc is okay with it.
