Why do some RNYers look so....sickly? Facial changes after massive weight loss (PICS!)

I have been thinking a lot about this - at 43 I know that my fat is filling out my wrinkles. What will happen when the fat is gone? My friend had GBP and her face is sinking. People tell me all the time that I look sick, even when I'm not. It's VERY irritating. I am not afraid of plastic surgery at all. Especially since it isn't even the remotest of possibilities at this time. If it was in 2 weeks, I'd by hysterical!

You are pretty. Please post your pics after sugery so we can all oggle you.

Shari, I love that you are so honest and forthright with all the things you go through. I think it helps me and others confront those same things and know that it's ok to be bothered by them.

For me, this process has been very kind to my face. Most of the fat in my face was in my cheeks. It is now...gone. I've been told my face is looking a bit gaunt but thus far no skin issues. I do, however, now have shrunken head syndrome. That's right...my head looks disproportionately smaller than the rest of my body. I use hairpieces to make up the difference. My hair isn't very long but a nice, full hair piece evens me out nicely.

I always figured your body pulls fat from the face, feet, etc. first because maybe it is deemed less needed fat than, say, around your hips (especially if you're still of child bearing age). I dunno...that's my very unscientific guess.

I applaud you for taking action about your skin...but at the same time can I just say ouch? You are so brave. I hope when my time comes I can be brave too.

I'm not driven by bravery-- I am driven by the notion that this happens to some people and they need to be able to wrap their heads around it...so maybe a heads up will help them understand what they might expect.

I'm not very lacking in esteem-- I never got esteem from a face or a body anyway-- I try to live mostly on the quality of my character...and one of the things my character isn't afraid of is putting myself on a limb to help somebody else-- I think it's the only way progress happens. Maybe someone else saw this and said, "Oh good, I'm not the only one." And maybe if I do get this mess corrected they can say, "Oh good, I don't have to live with it."

You know what Jupiter6? You are truly an inspiration to me. You are one of the most upfront honest posters I've ever read.

It seems anytime I read your posts you are straight-up, honest no-holds bar. You always have something interesting and thought provoking to post. At least anytime I've ever read them. Man, just thank you for all the pictures you've posted. You keep it real and I really appreciate it.

I can't share pics because I'm at work but I definately know what you're talking about. My 17 year old son told me since I've lost weight I look alot older, I wanted to kill him but it is the truth. My forehead has deep wrinkles now and my neck and eyes look bad too so I'll be talking to a platic surgeon as soon as I get to goal also. I need a total body lift and face too so I don't know how I'll come up with all that money either but I'm gonna try my best too.

I hear you about the money-- I am a public school teacher-- it's no secret that I live from check to check. To finance my face, I am taking a no-interest loan from my little brother, and paying it back over a couple years. My body plastics will be $14-17k before insurance, so I am putting all my energy into getting them approved-- I'll appeal as much as I can as well--and the remainder will also be paid for from a loan-- and some through a gift from my mother, who's proud enough of my accomplishment to want to help me bail myself outta this morass.

I'll basically be in hock forever. But I am prepared for that.

You were one BBW!!! I definitely wasn't a pretty fat woman ... My sister said I was the ugliest fat person she ever saw. Nice, huh??? Hate to brag, but I am lookin' pretty hot now, and she's, ummm, not. Sick of me to gloat, but it feels good to be childish sometimes (LOL)

Thanks-- I like to think I was a good lookin' lass...and would have been if I had never been obese-- but I make a lousy ex-obese woman. It's why this journey's been a challenge for me-- because unlike most people, I actually ended up feeling great but looking worse-- but I kinda knew that might happen. That's why I tell people this is not a vanity surgery-- you do it for your health-- because nothing else is guaranteed, unfortunately. If I'd done this to look young and pretty I'd have jumped off a bridge by now.

I guess in a sense I'm not going to improve my face, so much as get the crap outta the way that's keeping me from being what I once was...and I guess I am reluctantly okay with that.
