Why do some RNYers look so....sickly? Facial changes after massive weight loss (PICS!)
My PS had assured me my facial changes would stop and she's was right!! Finally, I am seeing the same face but it also has to do with when we're at our goals and our bodies are settled as well. My dermatologist said it is similar to dropping the pellets/contents of a bean bag chair into a swimming pool it takes time but the pellets will collect in groups and that is what our skin is like...it takes time for the shrinking fat cells to settle in.
A couple of weeks ago we did some photoshoots on some women who've all lost over 75 pounds and one thing we found was that cream, liquid and powder to liquid foundations settled into the wrinkles, bags around the eyes, mouth and etc and was not a good look. Mineral makeup is what we used and went with for the shoots and it was fabulous! I've worn mineral makeup for years now but it was great to see even the NY makeup artist get schooled!!
Both my dermatologist and PS told me to use Preparation H (be sure it is the cream not the gel) to help with the loose skin and any bags under the eyes--rather than the expensive skin creams and they were right it is amazing!!
201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!
And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

I HAD to come by and post. You KNOW I respect you more than my luggage! You also know I had some stuff done too! I didn't have plastic surgery-becuase I cant' afford it-YET. I DID have botox and Juviderm used to fill in those hollows. I have the VERY same areas of my face as you do which appear sunken. I was able to get some bang for my buck-although it will only last a year or so.
Because of our CHEEKBONES and facial structure-you and I both tend towards under eye issues. I know them so well-and when you showed the picture I was like YEP! That's MY face too! My neck is wobbly-and I WILL do something when I can.
Meantime-FILLING it in is working for me. My icon has not been retouched and you can see that I DO still look my age-but my under eyes are not as deeply grooved.
YOU I admire and TRUST to come to for REAL inspiration and hope.
Hugs and Peace,
T
I've gone back and forth on the rest-- does seem vain and insipid most of the time..but as mama said last night-- "You're not fixing a face you wrecked or that simply aged, you're reconstructing one that caved in-- it's different." Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I hope I have no regrets. Might as well start off right-- time will knock me down like it does everyone, I am sure!
Thanks for comin' round! I think I might be done losing, finally-- for the first time I weighed the same for two weeks in a row-- I'm thinking that may be all she wrote!

Honey, I started halfway through my weightloss working on my face. I lost enough weight that my wrinkles showed horribly. It was if I aged decades over a year. I had laser work done and microdermabrasion on my face. Then more and more of the same, then laser teeth whitening. Now I'm pretty happy with the results. My skin and face feel and look the best they ever have. Heck yeah, it was expensive, but if I'm going to go to all the trouble and expense of having major surgery on my body, and have my body look better, why not improve my face while I'm at it. (I also did not tell my husband I was doing it-- I took off during lunch hours to do it and we keep separate accounts. If he knew how much I put into it, he'd blow a gasket.) Frankly, I have to live with this face, it is what people see, and in my line of work, I meet a lot of people and have to make new contacts all the time. But bottom line, it was for me, and my own self confidence.
