I better work on my Goodbye Cruel Forum post...

My life is sucking at a very high level. You don't know much about me except, of course, what I cram down my gullet, so you're gonna have to take my word on that. My personal life is just unbelievably raw at the moment. But that's MY problem. (Short version: Union wars, Boss wars, no money, horrific children running rampant and unchecked, stepparenting, somewhat useless boyfriend). So let me just do the weight loss medical thing--

Here's a piece you can identify with: I gained 6 pounds since Sunday-- on 1300 calories a day. Yup. Six. Because something is freaking wrong. I walked four miles yesterday-- took all my supplements, drank my water, balanced my intake, yadda yadda, I'm fokked.

Piece two: return of the ghost poop. Which was once blamed on my gall bladder...but now that I don't have one (and having it removed nearly cost me my effing life) I guess we need a new scapegoat. My guess? My effing liver.

So another piece: I think my liver is shot. Gone. **** the proverbial bed. Tanking. And I have no idea who can help me with that, since my surgeon isn't returning messages and my PCP has no clue: they look at labs as a snapshot, don't follow trends. My enzymes went from AST 10, ALT 10 to AST 58 and ALT 79--- and quickly. I know weight loss causes elevated enzymes, but come on, I was losing weight for a year and a half before it did that.

I am really not coping well and carrying around a heartful of hatred at the moment and am likely to let it all out on unsuspecting boardees: probably the ones who are going to tell me that the gained 6 pounds I gained were a result of the donut and half piece of cake I had Saturday on my anniversary: Anyone tries that and I am coming to their house and whacking their lights out with a clue-by-four.

Not enjoying this anymore- and glad my oven is electric and not gas

For the liver issues, ask your PCP to send you to a hepatologist.  A hepatologist is a gastroenterologist with a speciality in livers.  If for some reason there isn't one in your area, a regular gastro-guy should do.  The other question there is, have you recently started on any new meds?  Some medications cause liver enzyme elevation.

Good luck getting everything straightened out.

No new meds and saw a gastro Monday. He said there's nothing to be concerned about and that people often have weird enzymes.

Thing is *I* don't. Been the same for 20 years. And the ghost poop didn't happen (of course!****il I left his office. GAH!!!

As someone who has liver enzyme issues (and still pre-op), I agree that some people often have weird enzymes.  Just unusual if you haven't had any problems before.  I guess make sure your PCP keeps an eye on it for now.  And I would mention the ghost poop to the PCP as well.

Good luck straightening things out...medically and personally.

Well hell…I thought my day was going bad.

Ok, so let’s put this in perspective a little bit.  We all know there is no anatomical way you could have gained 6 lbs. in the true sense on what you are eating.  So yes something is wrong.  And you’ll have to go to the doctor.  And there is a possibility that whatever is wrong might require some treatment that is uncomfortable, invasive, and inconvenient.  And that sucks.

Sigh…

But let’s snap back to attention here.  You are this fortress sometimes.  You stand bold in the face of all the rhetoric they tell us about our weight loss, all our neuroses.  You have refused to live your life any other way than what you are comfortable doing.  In short, you refused to live outside your own skin.  This type of stuff happens to people like you, I’m afraid.  The religious side of me is inclined to say it happens to strong willed people to see if they will bow to evil, but that all sounds very existential.  And I don’t dare go into the “that which does not kill us…" bullcrap.  For me that’s “that which does not kill me drives me to eat potato chips."  So where does that leave us?

Back at “this sucks."

You are my friend.  So I will listen if you need to rant, cuss, scream, ***** or even zap out on me.  Because you are my friend.

I hope it gets better.

That is all.

Yikes, Shari, I'm sorry you're going through so much. If I had a magic wand I'd make it all go away! As it is, I guess all I can do is keep you in prayer. I promise to do that. You've been helpful to so many people on this board and I always enjoy your posts and your quirky sense of humor. If stress can cause weight gain, I think that must be your culprit!

Hang in there...
