800 calories help
It's easier then you think. I started making my protein shake with fat free milk instead of water and there is almost 100 calories. Add another shake and you are set. Or you can eat a tablespoon of peanut butter, I think that is about 100 calories. It took me a few week to get up from 600 calories to 800 calories. You might have to add a high protein snack, some cheese or meat.
Even though you're probably cleared to start "regular" food, there's no real reason why you have to subsist exclusively on it.
I am a little over four moths out, and I still start each morning with a protein shake (made with powdered shake mix and some soy milk) that gets me up to around 300 calories.
My mid-day meal is often a 250-calorie protein bar, followed in a half hour or so with a can of V8 juice or a muscle milk lite. I'm careful to eat a balanced dinner meal that requires chewing, usually shooting for three-to-four ounces of meat (shrimp, fish, beef, lamb, pork) and some veggies.
My logging shows I'm getting an average of between 900 and 1000 calories per day. Sometimes less, rarely more.
I'm down 80 pounds (60 plus since the surgery) and have settled in to about a two-pound-per-week weight loss. I can live with that.

I toss half a scoop of chocolate protein into my coffee with the creamer in the mornings. That's about 40 calories and 12 grams of protein, so a good kick to the day before I have breakfast. An afternoon "treat" of an additional protein shake or protein hot chocolate can also boost your protein and your calorie intake. I added an additional shake in the mid morning after breakfast and I've felt so much better for having done that.
