Belly pain is back AGAIN

I ahve had almost 5 weeks without ANY of the mysterious severe belly pain (which was definitely appreciated while I was struggling with the knee injury for a couple of weeks)... but today... when I had to start a new (albeit probably temporary) job, it came back with a vengeance.  Of course, I had NOTHING but Tylenol with me.  Home now... going to put my jammies on, light a fire in the fireplace (it is rainy and windy and chilly here), have something yummy but probably not especially healthy for dinner (I ahve already met my minimum 60g of protein, and I really feel crappy, so I don't really care), and then hope the vicodin I just took kicks in.

Sigh.  I thought maybe the drugsmy PCP gave me for my bowel were eliminating the problem.  Guess not.  Time to get my PCP to gove me that referral for a new surgical consultation regarding adhesions.  Tomorrow.

Ugh. Sorry to hear you are still dealing with this. I hope the docs can figure this out and help you get back to a good place.

What exactly is the pain like?  Have they told you they were the adhesions?  I've had surgery twice to remove adhesions.  Each time I got about six months pain free before they returned.  Hope things improve for you!

It is a sharp, moderate to severe pain, always in the same place, and not tied in any way to eating or not eating...

They have ruled out almost everything else, and because I had an open RNY (and then a hernia repair) my surgeon indicated that adhesions are the most likely problem BUT because surgery to remove adhesions often results in yet more adhesions (and the new adhesions might cause even more significant problems than the existing ones), she does not do surgery to remove them.  Just living with this kind of unpredictable severe pain is not really an option, though...

Lora I completely understand what you mean!  I had to beg my surgeon for years to cut out my adhesions.  I don't think they would have done it if it weren't for the fact that I also had a section my my bowel not functioning properly.  I live in daily pain and see a pain management doctor.  After my last surgery in August, my pain management doctor actually apoligized for not helping me get the surgery done sooner.  I got six months of pain relief before they grew back.  Hope things improve quickly for you.  I understand how frustrating it is to not have control over your pain and when it happens!

Good luck.

 Lora,
I'm so sorry to hear about your pain! What a rough way to come back..... Sounds like you had success on the occupational front though, so, glad for you
