Lovenox

I have been giving myself the shots since I got home.  Tonight I noticed that the area around my belly button is almost completely black and blue.  I have to give them until next Sunday ( Easter) Does anyone else have this problem?  Am I doing something wrong?

Are you alternating sides?  Lovenox will make you black and blue.  Make sure you are not to close to your bellybutton.  Take a look at this video for a refresher:

The bruising is to be expected.  You do NOT have to limit the injections to right around your belly button, though.  Anywhere on your belly is fine (and if you run out of non-bruised places on your belly, you can use your thighs (but that generally hurts more).

I took heparin injections twice a day for about 6 months once and my belly and thighs looked like a truck ran over me!

I was lucky and did not bruise, but both my surgeon and PCP warned me about the bruising and that it usually looks worse than what they feel.  I'm just glad you're doing the injections :)

Thanks ladies foryour advise. I am so glad there is a place where we can come for help.  I was gettimg guide of scared. I thought that the nuse at the hospital had told me to give the close to the belly button.  I have been alyernating sides. I will just come further out from the belly button.

bruising is normal.  Try moving further out to the sides of your belly. 

I am a nurse and also waiting for surgery-you should really try not giving the injections in the belly.  use your arms or you legs and always rotate the site. good luck!
