Update on my nausea issues, and asking for prayers

I spent last sunday in the ER dehydrated from the nausea. They gave me the best drug, Zofran. It was so helpful. I have to refill it tomorrow. I was given two weeks worth. I can definitely eat/drink, nearly to my goals of 64 oz of liquid, and 60 grams of protein. Not 100% there, but a lot closer than NONE.

I take 4 mgs of zofran before sitting up in bed. Then If I need it I take it again at 1:30, and if I need the third at 9:30. I usually end up with the two doses.

It doesn't cure my nausea, but my vomitting has stopped. I've had ct scans, upper gi (where you drink the chalky junk), and tomorrow morning I have an EGD. They're mostly looking for a stricture. If it's there they'll stretch it. If not, well I guess they'll make sure nothing else is wrong. IF they find nothing at the EGD, it's my body fighting the RNY. And we hope and wait for it to get used to it.

I don't know which way to hope. I just hope it's a good day.... as we'll be taking the boys. No school. We're on spring break. Then tuesday is my one day with no running. Wednesday I see the nut. Thursday we're supposed to be in albany NY. Friday I see my pcp (Not RNY related).

I'm glad they gave you zofran.... it's a wonder drug. My insurance won't approve more than SIX pills in a month!

I've heard that, while rare, there aer some individuals who just have a lot of issues with nausea..... they are pretty miserable for a while, but then, for some, it magically just goes away! They wake up one morning and find that the usual nausea is gone, and life goes from horrible to magical overnight. Others just find it diminishing over time. This was one of my biggest fears that kept me from getting the surgery for a couple of years. I knew someone who was vomiting for the first six months (I later learned that she was also breaking all the rules all the time, and of course throwing up).... I didn't want that....anything but that!

I was lucky... other than surgery day nausea, I felt good.

When your nausea passes, you'll feel awesome and I know it will pass.... particularly if it is caused by a stricture.

I'll be praying for you that things get better for you! I had problems with nausea in past surgeries and my RNY on Weds wasn't much different - they used zofran, compazine and transderm scope on me in the hospital! At home, I drink ginger tea and mint tea like no tomorrow....

If you have trouble getting the  refill on zofran.. b-6 and benadryl 12.5mg does help. I had some nausea but it did not last very long, about 8 days....the ginger tea should too..Hope they find the reason for the nausea....it's just so much easier when they can find a problem and fix it.....sweetpotato
