Problems with Memory Retention

Has anyone else had issues remembering things after surgery?  I am noticing problems with coming up with the right words, people's names, where I put things.  I am 2 months out and eating right, I just don't know if this is related to the surgery or if this is something else to worry about:(

What's your B12 level?

When they took my levels at my first post op, they were twice what they should have been.  At the time, I was taking a sub lingual 2500 mg pill every day.  I've brought it down to once a week.  I go this wednesday for my next set of labs.

When you say twice what they should have been, what does that mean?  Sometimes docs say your B12 is good when it's not.

When you get labs done Wed, if your B12 is 550 or below, it's probably the cause of your memory problem.

I am 4 weeks out and I have had problems with short term memory and word finding, too. I have be very irritating when I tell a story! I have lost two sets of keys in the last few weeks, too. I AM getting all the right fluids, protein, exercise AND vitamins in.

B-complex will also help, if you aren't taking one, start .

Thiamine (B1) deficiency can lead to severe problems.

Vitamin D deficiency is another issue.

And I would take B12 sublinguals daily until you get your labs done and SEE the results

call your doc and get a copy of your labs.

Are you taking a B complex.  Thiamine (B-1) deficiency will cause memory problems.

In addition to vitamin deficiencies, very low carb diets sometimes cause memory issues.  (It's a frequent side effect of the Atkins program.)  If that is the case, when you are able to add some complex carbs to your diet, it should pass.
