I was supposed to have my surgery back in March but had to postpone.  It is now scheduled for June 30th.  The doctor has told me that I need to lose 30 lbs before surgery and I am really struggling.  Please help me, I am sooooo stressed and worried.

You could try Medifast.  This is what my surgeon has all his patients on 2 weeks before surgery.  I dropped 21 lbs.  It is 500-600 calories, high protein and low carb/sugar.  It is rough because you'll be hungry but you will drop the weight.  You can order online or it's even sold on Ebay.  Stick to soups, puddings, eggs, oatmeal and bars.  Stay away from the snacks and maintenance bars.  Cut out soda, sugar and fried foods.

Good luck!  You CAN do it :)

Protein shakes, for 2 meals and then protein and veggies. Quit the carbs. It'll come off faster than your think. And someone suggested Medifast. Screw that. It taste like ..well.  Not good. Optifast, on the other hand and quite good, but only available through your doc. And then you go to the Optifast website and they give you a TON of good ideas, things to add to the shakes that make them even better... You can do it!! Good luck!!

When I had to lose before surgery, I tried just eating healthy. Try banana and yogurt for breakfast (for good protein, use Greek yogurt and add splenda), or cottage cheese and banana. For lunch I would have a huge salad with spinach instead of lettuce, turkey or chicken (no skin), and other veggies with a low fat dressing on the side to dip my fork into, and simple dinners. Snack on carrot sticks, string cheese, fruit. Try to start walking. You can do this!

Good luck.

Am I reading this right?  You are supposed to lose 30 pounds in six weeks?

While it could be done I suppose, this is simply not practical.  If my doctor told me something like this, I'm afraid I would seek the services of another doctor...

If she goes liquid diet, she could come close to the 30 lbs in 6 weeks.  The 1 week I did preop I lost 12.

I agree with the shakes and only protein plan.

We did a 4 week optifast, one small meal diet before surgery.  There were heavier folks who lost 30 lbs.  We had to lose 8% of our excess weight and everyone who was in my group had no problem with that.

i started out 4 weeks prior with replacing 1 meal a day with a protein drink, then 3 weeks out replacing 2 meals, then the last 2 weeks all three meals were replaced (it wasn't easy i will say that up front)  also did some walking on a treadmill 5 days a week.
