suggestions on what type of steak and how to prepare it
Looking for suggestions on what type of steak is best to order out (for tenderness and taste)?
Went to Ruby Tuesdays and not a very good experience.
Also any suggestions on what type to purchase and how to best tenderize it so it melts in your mouth as much as possible?
As you can tell I've never been a steak person but lately am craving it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

For the first year or so I never ate anything except filet mignon or sirloin strips. Everything else was either too fatty and made me a little queasy but never sick (e.g., ribeye, which I didn't like all that much even before surgery, but I thought it would be mroe tender) or was too tough to chew properly. I know the filet is expensive, but even now (just under 4 yrs out) one filet is still 3 meals for me.
With beef, the grade of the meat is just as important as the cut. Inferior (and therefore cheaper) grades are less tender (and this applies to filet mignon as well!).

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Prime Rib is usually tender and lean. That was my choice early out when I was eating out. You can buy it in some groceries and at SAMS. Now I mostly eat Strip steaks. Ribeyes are too fatty.

Post surgery I have been having a problem with beef, which is ashame.... but I think for me, filet mignon has been easier to digest when I do attempt to eat beef.
It also matters how you cook it... you could get the most tender/expensive cut of beef available and if its not cooked right, you could end up chewing on leather.
I rarely have any steak meat, as it still is difficult for me to digest. I'd much prefer ground meat, chicken or fish. I have learned to like ground bison, as it seems much easier to digest. DAVE

Yes, thats why I ordered out, thinking they know how to cook it better than I would...but it was like leather. I asked for med. rare and when it came it was well done.
They got me another one cause I couldn't chew it and this one was rare with blood coming out of it and cold in the middle. They said if it wasn't done enough they could put it back on again...
I will take the suggestions here and try grilling it.
Thanks again,

I don't much problem at all with steak as long as the pieces are small and I chew thoroughly. I like chopped steak also especially with sauteed or carmelized onions and mushrooms and gravy on it. If I go to a resuarant this is what I usually get because it reheats better for me. I sometimes have issues with leftovers and it's more the taste than the tolerance for me on the leftovers.
