Well, I'm trying to get fit! I've lost over 110 pounds but I still don't feel fit. I have been running for about a week and I LOVE it.. When I'm not running I'm thinking about running! Right now I'm walking 3 minutes and running three minutes on a track for 30 minutes with a cool down as well. I'm looking for some tips.. I really want to be able to run a 5k by the end of the summer.

Anyone have running tips? Thanks

Welcome to an awesome addiction.

First piece of advice is Shoes! If you haven't already get to a running store and get fitted. This typically involves them analyzing your stride while on a treadmill.

Second is start in your comfort zone to get used to the idea. As you get used to it push yourself a bit more. C25K has seen a lot of success on these forums.

Rest days, do not under estimate the importance of rest days. Our joints have taken years of abuse from being obese and it takes time to get them back. Run a day rest a day gives your body time to recover. Cross training on non run days with weights will help body your bodies ability to hold good form especially a sold core workout. Things like spin classes will help your endurance.

Listen to your body. If you are hurt (not sore) or sick take a rest day you will be better off in the long run.

Good for you Crystal!!  I agree totally with Paul.

I have just completed W3 of the Couch to 5k (C25k) program and am loving it as well.  Each week of the program progresses your run a little longer than the week before and shortens some of the walk intervals between runs.  There are several programs out there to help you prepare for your first 5k and in becoming a runner.

Come join us on the Exercise and Fitness forum and post your daily workouts.  You will not find a more supportive and encouraging group of post-op exercise buffs anywhere.  They daily motivate me.

I am creating my own revolution and PAMdemonium reigns!
