I am 1 week pre-op too! 6/2/11  I was wondering too about how much or how long to walk each time too. Good luck to you next week !

Thanks! And good luck to you too!
And thanks to all you thoughful people and your replies! So, walk, walk, walk as much as you can and 'as much as you can" varies. But force myself to do it.

I was up in the middle of the night following my surgery walking the halls of the hospital. by the time they released me the next morning (yes, I was in hospital less than 24 hours) I was walking "laps" about three times around the floor. When I got home I moved around in the house as much as possible then (since the weather was nice) I went out and walked around the cul-de-sac. I started out with one lap around, then later the same day I did two, and then three laps the next walk around. I didn't want to leave the cul-de-sac incase I did get winded or tired or felt like I'd done "to much" and couldn't make it home. I expanded my walk area a little everyday until I was pretty much back to my "normal" routine.
