ever take a "day off" from food?
Yesterday was crazy and I'm not too far post-op. I completely forgot to eat. I'm not hungry and I had something to drink on me all day. At about 5pm I got a bottle of milk and a cheese stick from a gas station. I drank the milk but couldn't eat the cheese. When I got home from class, I just went to bed.
Today I ate my usual greek yogurt breakfast and feel fine. Usually the yogurt will make me slightly nauseous but today it didn't.
I know I messed up yesterday. I didn't get hardly any protein at all.
But I do feel different/better today. I wonder if I should do an all liquid day every so often. Of course, I'll have to do protein shakes, but no real food.
Does anybody do that? How do you handle those days? Is this not a good idea at all?
I should say that the day before yesterday I had Chinese for 3 meals. I got a $10 to-go buffet thing and all I got was shrimp and chicken on a stick. While I don't think those were bad choices, I didn't know the calorie content. Maybe subconsciously I was feeling guilty for the unknown calories?
Thoughts?? Thanks!

I have had those days. Where nothing sounds good and I feel slightly nauseous and certainly not hungry, and I just don't want to eat. I think its ok as long as its not too often.
The chinese doesn't sound bad; its just probably full of sodium.
I'd drink plenty of water on the days you aren't eating as much and also on the days you eat high sodium.
It was easy for me to get all the protein in at first but I quickly burned out on the shakes. I've been trying to get all my protein in from food and only do a shake if I haven't met my criteria by bedtime. Its been hard. I am eating egg white omelets in the morning with veggies, sushi for lunch, and usually salad with grilled chicken or a Cobb Salad at dinner. Lots of water.

Who knew that we could forget to eat!!! lol I love chinese food, but I think the salt content is higher, so maybe you were just feeling bloated.....
I have had days where I was just not hungry. I had to force myself to eat something. Do your best to get your proteins in. All we can do is try. If we make a mistake we can fix it the next day.....
I know you can do protein shakes for all your meals, but why would you LOL....I hate them :(. There is a drink called isopure. It is a liquid protein drink.....They sell it at GNC. So you can try that too......
I just think we need to figure out what works for us, individually as a person.....
Play around with your diet, bring prepared meals/snacks with you when you go out for a day. Or especially on work days, so you can have something on hand as a reminder to eat some sort of protein.
This is all trial and error, until we get some sort of routine going!
Good luck.....

Acceptance means that you can find the serenity within to let go of the past with its mistakes and regrets, move into the future with a new perspective, and appreciate the opportunity to take a second chance!

Even this early out I've had "small pouch days" where the majority or all of my protein were in drinks b/c I just couldn't get food in, but inevitably the next day I was fine on food. I wouldn't worry so much about missing one day of protein but it's not good to have it as a habit in the long-run.

It is different from a non-WLS person. Your body is under a lot of physical stress with trying to complete the healing process and with taking in so little nutrition in the first place, so not eating at all puts MORE stress on your body than it would for someone who eats a normal number of calories on a regular basis.

Hi Carrie:
People and cultures take days off from food all the time...It's called "Fasting"
However, usually people are really good about getting in at least a lot more water or healthy teas (non-caffiene, etc).
As WLS post ops, we can STILL fast in a healthy manner, just make sure you are getting a lot of water, and also maybe something like Vitamin Water 0 or Gatorade g2 (the Sugar Free variety!)
Green tea, etc. Do some relaxing things...(massage, a warm bath with epsom salts, gentle meditation, etc..)... Once in awhile this is really GOOD for our body...WLS or not.
That being said, you are still pretty "newly pre-op" just around 3 months out. So yeah, overall you just had a bad day/non-hungry/hectic day. I think nearly ALL of us have had a day where our pouches just do NOT really want any food...LOL! (or we get really busy!). Be good and make sure to get in extra liquid and ALL your vites and minerals and such. One "bad" day isn't the end of the world. Just make sure to get in some extra liquids (water, tea, etc) in today to compensate.
But yeah, I do have days where I just "fast" and do liquids only. Really is refreshing for my body.
PS: I also wanted to say, enjoy the "not hungry" feeling now...By a year out, you will be just as hungry as you were pre-op or close too! LOL!
Best of health to you!
Warmly,
Jackie

Thanks, guys!
I do get most of my protein from food so when I didn't eat yesterday, very little protein. I did drink alot of water.
I hit 80g of protein today so I think I'm okay.
Started TOM today so that explains weirdness I think. Are your little pouch days related to female issues?
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has done this. Thanks again everybody!!! Y'all are great!

Not all the time, some days I think it's just my body's feeling "off" and doesn't want food. I've yet to throw up for upset stomach's sake so when my family is sick and I have a small pouch day I honestly think it's my body's way of saying "I'm sick--don't make me eat!" But usually, that TOM brings the bottomless pouch days here.... sigh and it's been sometimes TWICE a month for me :-p Dang hormones
